If it's a laptop or you can move the modem try plugging it directly into the demarc point. Very often the problem will not be between the CO and your demac. It is often with the inside wiring. If it is much faster plugged into the demarc then you know you can improve the problem by replacing the inside wiring. Also, disconnecting unused jacks helps. Since it's 31k rather than 26.4k there's hope of getting a better connection. Since it's above 26.4k that means the phone company hasn't decided to screw-over the people in your area by adding an extra ADC and a DAC conversion like I have at my house.z

WildBlue satellite internet. It may not work well with online games, VOIP, or VPN (due to latency), but it is MUCH better than dialup for everything else. -Troy |

I've been having a lot of problems with my DSL line, it's supposed to be up to 3000k connection, and has actually clocked in the area of around 2500k, which is pretty darn good, not too long ago I was having problems that were driving me nuts, I checked the download speed and it came out at 500 bytes! That's 1/2 of 1k, even the old 3k (before 23k dialup) I started with many years ago was faster than that! I may have finally found the culprit, I should know after a day or so...

that ar photo, which is nice by the way, is large on screen but not large in file size. I bring you this.
edit: that was just plain mean, i linked a 6 meg photo. unless you had a cable modem or dsl the page would never load. |

Try unplugging the modem from your TRS-80 and sticking it into your Apple IIe or Commodore 64K. It should be faster.
