showed my boss the background on my PC's desktop at work... my gun collection,and he says I need to take it off.. I'm "not supposed to have anything" and I've "got guns on there".  then of course I get the qustions about my AR... did you have to register that?  is that an "assault rifle"? can't you make that automatic easily?

Take the guy to the range!  If he's got any testosterone left in him he'll have a blast and understand a little better why you like your guns.

Um, maybe you could just bring a couple of .22's... a rifle and a pistol, and maybe some bowling pins.  The real trick is getting the whiner to agree to go...

Had a very different experience with a couple of co-workers, both female to boot.  Took both of them to an in-door range over lunch and after the initial trepidation loved it!  In fact one of the gals has her target taped to the wall behind her cube in full view.  Now I've got several other co-workers saying that the next time I go they expect an invite, including my boss.

since i dragged him and some of my sur's with plenty of ammo to the club.

He now  wants to get an ar-10 as his next deer gun.

Hes starting to show signs of improvement at least.

Guess who is going to be the first one laid off and escorted off the property by armed guards when your company downsizes.

Being a firearms enthusiast is not like every other hobby. I don't just mean the political sensitivities - as others have pointed out, security concerns dictate that you probably don't want to blab about what you have in your house.

I never lie about what I do with my spare time - if I've got a match coming up, and somebody asks me what I'm doing this weekend, I tell 'em. But I try to remember that smart people disagree. Stupid people disagree, too, but that's another story.

If your company has a written policy that you don't get to put pictures on your PC, then you should remove the picture. If there's no such policy and you feel like your boss is harassing you, tell him and then write a note to your HR department. Otherwise, maintain your cool, answer his questions and don't get drawn into a debate. IMHO, all of this pro/anti political stuff should stay out of the office. He shouldn't try to force his world view on you, and you shouldn't try to convert him. Just do your job, go home, hug the wife and clean your guns!

Having a govt. job, the rules where I work are very stiff about guns. Also have to park behind a fence they have the right to search vehicles. But my boss is very much into guns, so the mags and the talk is very easy.
The only problem has come when we were drug tested. They made us unload our pockets(to look for hidden pee), and raised hell when two of us were carring three pocket knives each. I think I may be on report for that one. No problem, I've been there too long to get into trouble for that one.....fullclip

A sad irony. If you were openly "gay" you would have no shortage of co workers encouraging you and willing to overlook any and all shortcomings. When did blowing a load up some hairy guys ass become more socially acceptable than lawful firearm ownership?

I remember one morning before school I had to shoot a squirrel(they get under our house and chew wiring).  Anyway a .22 round had gotten stuck in the corner of my pocket.  In science class it rolled it rolled onto the floor!  Luckily only me and my friend saw it! Scared me shitless and now I always check my pockets!  Many people at school know I am interested in guns since I was did a prject on ballistics and helped a teacher select ammo for an antique shotgun.  No one cares.

It happened when they were told it was ok to come out of the closet by the liberals and prayer was taken out of our schools.

There's now also a term for the (apparently widespread-enough to warrant naming it) practice of sucking it out afterward.

I am really lucky because out of the 43 people in our office, 7 of us are avid shooters and go at least twice a month. We have taken out some of the non-shooters at times and returned with 'war stories' on the range enough times to make the others want to go. We have considered a company outing in the spring but I have to get a few more guns to go around by then.

I feel for you. Heck, I get enough flak for having a pic of the Macallan trio (12, 15, and 18 year single malt scotch bottles!) as my image at work. I've gotten flak from some employees on my screen saver (the weapons of Heckler and Koch). Now I pretty much just don't talk about it. Even though I know there are a few gun enthusiasts in the building...too many anti's around to make snide remarks or reports to bosses.
