Nothing crazy, but I knew he would be scared at first. I helped him get up it and showed him where to step etc. Should have seen him once he got on top, a combination of the view and accomplishment doing something he didn't think he could do was well worth it.

I just hate how idiots have spray painted the shit out of this place since I was a teenager.

Here's the pictures, I have my wife, who is afraid of hights to thank for the first few with my so .

The reward

awesome. Get him a few bouldering mats. They will do a lot to ease any fears and allow you to start showing him around more complicated rocks. Bummer about the spray paint. I try not to let it get me down. That paint isn't going to hurt something that has been around for millions of years.

Cool. I've wanted to try rock climbing but my area of Georgia is pretty much completely flat and the closest rock gym is an hour and a half away.

Good job teaching him Dad. Now he can go back when he's 17 and tag it himself! LOL!!

Many years ago we took the Scouts to an indoor rock (wall) climbing gym.   All the boys looked up and went into panic mode and none would attempt it.  Until my 6 yo daughter strapped on a harness and went all the way to the top without even slowing down.
Shamed all those tough guys into it.

DING DING DING!

used to climb over the fence to the towers and climb them with some close friends when I was a youth. You can see the curvature of the planet from the top of the tallest tower....probably going to get cancer some day though, who knows what kind of RF / radiation we exposed ourselves too. That was like 16yrs ago....good times.

looks cool OP but jesus, I think I'll stick with the natural, non tagged rock formations for climbing out here.  There's prob. broken glass and heroin needles in all the hand holds for christs sake.

The glass from broken beer bottles is a real issue.

Even on problems too steep for these jerks to get atop, they'll just throw and smash bottles against the rock, and glass fragments will wind up in handholds ... just waiting to be "discovered".

Slab climbing means no holds to retain glass

This is the place you want to go to with your highschool buddies and their girlfriends if the Russians invade.

I did see a few pairs of panties laying around lol. No real broken glass issues, I was thinking of that though when I took off my flip flops. The area is otherwise pretty clean....still it made me wish I has a huge pressurized container of muriatic acid to wash it down with to get that shit off.

Well back to work/welding.
