NEW YORK (AFP) - A leading US Muslim group said it was disturbed by reports that US authorities were racially profiling passengers at New York's Kennedy airport.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations said it had received three separate reports from Iraqi-born Americans alleging they were detained for up to six hours at the airport last week without justification.

The allegations came from a Michigan couple, two people from California and a New Jersey woman travelling with her five children.

The council said that it feared hundreds of other passengers had been filtered by security on the basis of their names or appearance.

It called on officials "to partner with the American Muslim community in order to ensure national security in a manner that is consistent with American values of justice and equality."

A statement from US customs authorities denied they were screening passengers on the basis of ethnicity, but acknowledged increased security over an alleged plot by Muslim extremists to bomb US flights from Britain.

"CBP (Customs and Border Protection) does not use racial profiling, however CBP officers may scrutinise more closely individuals arriving from high-risk countries," it said in a statement.

It refused to divulge why some passengers were screened, citing privacy issues, but acknowledged that there were "extremely long wait times" at Kennedy airport on the day concerned, saying heightened security was mainly to blame.

09/11/2001 - Two hijacked airliners crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Soon thereafter, the Pentagon was struck by a third hijacked plane. A fourth hijacked plane, suspected to be bound for a high-profile target in Washington, crashed into a field in southern Pennsylvania. More than 3,000 U.S. citizens and other nationals were killed. President Bush and Cabinet officials indicated that Usama Bin Laden was the prime suspect and that they considered the United States in a state of war with international terrorism.

Apparently, Muslims within this country think that there is no pattern here and that any scrutiny of Muslims is wrong - according to the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR).

A spokesman for the United States of America, unaffiliated with the US Government, addressed CAIR's concerns as such, "Get Some, CAIR!"

When will these knuckle heads learn? The TSA does "target" People for suspicion it only "clears" those who DO NOT fit the profile, you know like babies and 80 year old Japenese women. All those who are left are not profiled they are just not those who are "highly unlikely" to be terrorists. I assure you it is pure coincidence that all the "middle eastern" looking people are within that group.

I would at the very least deport them all and not allow any in. Thats real profiling.

Fixed that headline for ya, my truck bomb driving friend.   I was searched when I flew last Monday, as were 150,000 other white guys and 300,000 elderly people and a few thousand blacks and a few thousand mexicans, all so we could get a peek into the bomber vests of a few arabs without offending them,,,,,as usual it did not work.

I think the US is trying to profile but doesnt have the experience to do it as well as the Israelis.  Being from a high risk country is one aspect of it but BEHAVIOR is the most important

Regardless, they seem to fit the profile of those responsible for driving planes into buildings, blowing up train cars and busses, beheading captives on video....and seem a bit more likely candidates for a little extra attention then 80 YEAR OLD WHITE WOMEN and 8 YEAR OLD KIDS.....

Perhaps then you can explain the Pew polls that since prior to the invasion of Iraq consistently show Osama Bin Laden having a higher approval rating among Muslims then does the US?

Any of these fucking hyphenated Americans are not Americans.  Muslims that are not activley terrorists are deep down in thier rotten fucking souls supporting it and are happy to see any kafirs killed.  That is thier way.  We would not have to profile any of them if we simply rounded them all up and send them back to thier 11th century ideal 3rd world countries.  Your other statements about the gunman shooting up a school is not well thought out.  An individual or small group is not the same as an entire religion with millions of members who would like to see all that are not muslim destroyed.

When the only people who are declaring "Jihads" against us are muslim, then I think you can safely say the Jews don't want to blow us up.  CAIR is just complaining because they want to make it easier for would-be terrorists to commit their cowardice acts...Racial profiling is a neccesity in this case if we truly want to prevent any future attacks against us.

Please elaborate. Too often these discussions wind up badly. But if you have facts that support this statement, I'd personally like to hear them or see links to them. Also, I remember CNN specifically broadcasting video of Islamic approval for the attacks: men cheering in the streets and burning US flags. Perhaps I missed all the support shown us by Islam in the days immediately following 9/11. Again, links would be helpful.
