I listen to all types of music...but have been listning to some acoustic guitar stuff lately and have taken a liking to Neil Young.  What is the official Arfcom position on Mr. Young?

Yes, I know he is a hippy.

My musical tangents include:

Andres Segovia
Rolling Stones
Beatles
Eric B. and Rakim
Paul Okenfold
The Cure
Johnny Cash

Any recommendations are appreciated.  My old man used to be a disc jockey so I have pretty wild range of tastes from Hank Williams Sr. (I like old country not new country) to Outkast.

If you like that mix, you need to get the album 'An Evening With John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess'.  If you like acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and piano, you will LOVE this recording.

IMO, it's one of the best albums of all time, and live at that(except for the last song which they never should have put on the album).

I can do the Metallica but that's about it.  I'm not into thrash/speed/death metal stuff.

Needle and the Damage Done, Hurricane, Keep on Rockin in the Free world, Heart of Gold.  Neil Young dude.

Neil Young has a sound all his own.
I like his music...he plays the guitar, harmonica, piano....about everything and he's good at it.
He is a true musician...not like a lot of pop stars nowdays.

He's probably one of the best in his generation.

I just saw Bob Dylan for the first time this summer and must say he rocked also...he's from the same generation as Neil Young...the 60's

Neil Young is in my opinion the greatest contemporary musician.

There are many others who have made better single albums or written better single songs - but no one alive can match him for the depth and breadth of music that he has created.

Last two albums have been a little weird but that's just Neil Young.

My advice?  Buy Decade and then start buying the albums that go with the songs you like on there.  Some of my favorite Neil Young songs are not very common ones.

The song "Powderfinger" has incredible emotional significance in my family.  It is on "Rust Never Sleeps."  Listen to the lyrics and think about it.

I know about 250 Neil Young songs on vocal, guitar, bass, and piano off the top of my head.  It is the common musical currency in my family.

Neil is a great song writer and an excellent musician.

Too bad he can't carry a tune, and his politics suck.

His politics suck but some of his old stuff is great.  Cortez the Killer is a great song.

A souther man don't need him around anyhow.

I guess if you like nasal whineing, Niel Young is your cup of tea.

Personally, I can't stand his liberal BS that permiates his music.

I don't see many movies any more becasue I won't support liberal

POS actors, and, I refuse to patronize blatantly liberal musicians.

I have a tape of Neil Young playing with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at the 1995 Rock and Roll hall of fame induction.

Pretty damn cool, I'll have to dig it up.

Neil Young is a liberal, but at least he keeps his trap shut and plays.

Decade is a great album to listen to.

Get the DVD "Rust Never Sleeps", that's a great one too.

I passed up the opportunity to see Neil Young in San Fransisco to watch Tom Petty at the California State Fair.
Should have gone with Neil Young.

Neil Young used to be in a band with Rick James (Bitch!).

And remember, Neil Young is Canadian.

Excuse me? Might I pointedly suggest you listen to both James Taylor and/or Don Henley, for starters?

I must have missed something - When did Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Eddie Van Halen, Jimmy Page, Alex Lifeson, Stevie Vai, Joe Satriani, Eric Johnson, Brian Mays, Joe Walsh, Billy Gibbons, Jeff Baxter, David Gilmour, Kevin Eubanks, Carlos Santanna, Trevor Rabin, Jeff Beck, Robin Trower, Joe Perry, Ronnie Montrose and several thousand other more-talented guitarists die?

ETA:  Damn, nothing like a cheesy geek joke to totally kill a thread.
