I am currently living in AZ, and I am moving to Charlottesville, VA soon.  What restrictions can I look forward to putting up with there?

I'll be about 40 miles away from you.

It'll be worse than AZ, but not bad.  Wait for Poodleshooter to reply for local laws.

One gun a month BS.  THere is talk that there might be a movement to repeal that though.

Instant background checks, no permit required.  Although instant can sometimes mean 2 hrs or more.

NRA headquarters in Fairfax, VA.  They have a real nice indoor shooting range where you can shoot everything up to and including .460 Weatherby Magnum.

Shall issue CCW permits after taking training course.  THere is also a bill in the Senate right now that would allow CC in places that serve alcohol, as long as you are not consuming.

For a complete breakdown of all the laws try the NRA web-site.  They have a page with all the states and their gun laws.

Also, check out www.vcdl.org.  Good state organisation to belong to.

You also need a proof of US citizenship, such as a passport or birth certificate, if you want to buy combat arms ( my term for "assault weapon" ).

Which basically applies to the purchase of any pre-ban weapon.

Actually, I think "scary guns" would be a better replacement for "assault weapons"

One handgun a month is about the worst.

I'll be just on the other side of the mountain dude.  Their are a bunch of shooting clubs in the Charlottesville area, as well as a free National Forest range about 2 hours west of you.  Charlottesville is a great city, just very liberal.  You'll see a few MMM bumperstickers and might get the evil eye from pissed off upper middle class soccer moms if you drive a truck with an NRA sticker on it.  Otherwise the area is great.  There is a great brewery in town, plenty of decent bars and clubs, low crime, and lots of historical type places to take the kids to.

***Beware:  I've heard that Charlottesville has a judge that has been illegally adding a "supervised training" requirement to the application for a CCW.  It might be worth getting a CCW just to put a socialist judge in his place.

Friend of mine was fired from a job because the company found out he had obtained a VA CCW permit.  (Hadn't brought a gun to work or anything like that...just got a permit).  He sued for (among other things) wrongful termination, and got a fairly large settlement.

He put all of the money into a special account, and uses it to buy (you guessed it) a handgun every month.

I think he even sends the company a thank-you note after each purchase, too...

Just don't venture north of the Potomac....very anti-gun government up here.

Just stay away from Northern Va. If you come up this way you may notice the local residents look and act differently than the rest of the state.

Here I rounded up a few of the residents - see for your self.

Yeah, but the trim is in pretty sad shape.  Mostly ugly Oriental chicks and scag lesbians.  The really fine poon is in Harrisonburg (where I go to school [;)]) at JMU.  High girl to guy ratio (like 3:1) and super-fine poon.  In fact, the poon is of such high quality in Harrisonburg that even poon that would be exceptional in other areas is just kind of mediocre in H-burg.  Now that's some good poon.

HEY! Another Charlottesville ARFCOM dweller here. IM me if you want information on the local range/gunclub www.rrpc.org or any other aspects of the the town. Getting a CHP for CCW'ing is not difficult, even in the city itself. I had no problem when I got mine 2 years ago. Never had any additional regulations either, just use either a hunter safety card or a NRA basic pistol course certificate for training proof.

I'd agree on the one HG a month is pure BS.  I got back at them because I bought 2 rifles and a shotgun in 3 weeks.

[sniper]

Other than that I haven't had any thing to really complain about.  Better than some states I know of....

Well for me Nirvana would be actually being able to afford to buy a handgun a month!
