Ok, it has happened to all of us.  You thought the movie would suck, but after being forced to see it, you were surprised how good it was.

My short list:

1. Galaxy Quest
2. Up Periscope
3. Fifth Element

What is on your list?

Defiantly an "anti" film.

Story was ok, but I cringed at some of the lines.

Doctor: "Any nut can walk into any gunshow and buy a gun" (used to reference where Denzel got the pistol.

Denzel, about holding people hostage with an empty gun: "I didn't want anybody to get hurt".

Dudes, 13th warrior was awesome!  I did not put it on my list because I did not think it would stink.  I bought it on DVD as soon as it came out.

Sling Blade.  I didn't think I'd laugh so much, though I guess it wasn't supposed to be a comedy.

I was pleasantly surprised by "Thirteenth Warrior."

I was really surprised by "Almost Famous"  That was a great flick.
It was not the overwhelming glorification of Rock and Roll that I thought it was going to be.  It pretty much played it out realistically with all the petty bullshit that really goes on back stage.

How about "All the Pretty Horses".

My GF rented it, and I thought it would be all mushy and crap, but that movie turned out to be really good.

Before I saw it, based on previews being shown, I thought the original "Predator" was some B class movie that probably wouldn't be worth watching.  When it came out on cable, I was very pleasantly surprised.  It's now one of my favorites.

Actually, I thought American Beauty did suck.

I didn't hold out much hope for Fargo before seeing it, but it turned out to be pretty good.  The dialogue was hysterical.

The opening scene in QUILLS is damned bone chilling.

If you haven't seen this movie and have a taste for the macabre, then rent it.  If nothing else just for the opening scene.  ugggh.

Hook and Zorro, the Gay Blade

Who wants to see what happened to Peter Pan when he grew up? I'm glad daughter has it. It's one of my favorites.

And who would ever want to watch George Hamilton playing a gay Zorro? Absolutely hilarious.

I kinda' figured John Q. would be good with Denzel Washington as the lead actor. I haven't seen everything he's done, but of the movies I've seen he's done an outstanding job.

I think why it won the Academy Awards it did was because it appeals to the leftists among the media.

It did make mention of how easy it is to get a gun, "five minutes at any gunshow" etc. But most of the movie was about a working class (black)man who was screwed out of proper insurance coverage by his big industry employer.

Then add in John Q's "I'll do anything to save my kid" and there you have it.

Do it for the children, inadequate health insurance with a quick jab at guns and you got a winner.

The Fifth Element turned out to be good, even though I thought it'd suck.

The Whole Nine Yards surprised me too.  I usually expect Bruce Willis movies to suck so I dont see them in theatres.  It's pleasant when they turn out to be good when I rent them.

Resident Evil

After hearing about the script being scrapped multiple times. Including George Romeroes! i thought it would'nt have any sort of feel close the the game. While not a masterpeice and a little short on background story for non Resident Evil players i found myself rather amused. I heard they were going to make a sequel. I hope so because the Allison chick or whatever her name was, was cool.

Last years Super Bowl.

Not a movie obviously....BUT...I did think it was going to suck....And....it turned out great.

Don't care for either team, but it was a fun game to watch.

Now I'll try to dig up a movie that didn't suck. Soory for the tangent.

All movies made after John Wayne's death suck, some just suck less than others.

I've never been "pleasantly surprised" by anything that comes from Hollyweird.

The Name Of The Rose. Sean Connery was in it years ago. Great mystery during the Inquisition. Thought it would suck, but it was great.

Gotta go with Office Space too. It looked stupid from the preview, but holy crap did it have some hilarious stuff in it!

Kinda embarrased to say it, but 'Dr. Zhivago' was a wife rental that I enjoyed. Also an old film called 'Fandango', it has Kevin Costner in it, but don't let that fool ya.

Hey - Time Bandits and Name of the Rose were both good movies!

I was pleasantly surprised by The Matrix - I expected it to be some fantasyland chop-suey Kung Fu epic, but it all made sense when I finally saw the movie and grasped the context.  I can't wait for the sequels (there will be two - and I ran into someone on the Pyro Crew for Matrix 2!)

Waterworld turned out rather well as well.

How about movies that looked good but sucked?  Alien3 comes to mind - especially when I finally got my hands on the original script....

the first time i saw a preview for HEAT i thought it was just some movie that someone made w/ val killmer because he had just done batman( id didnt notice that di nerio and pachino were in it and i didn't know who michael mann was at the time) so i opted not to see it in the theater. WHAT AN IDIOT!
i procrastinated for BRAVEHEART too for some reason, cant remember why.
