Im interested in a pair of Motorola Radios for Hunting/Shooting. I like the Spirit/Spirit GT's.  The others are way too big.  Anybody know anything about them?  Are they really good for 4 miles?  Wheres the best price to be had?

I got some Talkabout 250s. These little things are a great deal. Range depends upon terrain. The 250s are rated for up to two miles. In Florida with building intereferrence usually you get about a mile tops. But in Iowa we were 3 miles apart and still in touch.

They are also useful for close communication if the cells ever go down.

I've got a pair of T289s and my brother has a SLK 280.  We've gotten two miles on some occasions others a little less, if inside a residence or a building range is reduced quite a bit.  For some reason one of the T289 radios is a little weaker than the other on sending.

Used the 250's before and was quite impressed. Use RT500's (I think) at work and they will reach a loooooooong ways, but it is a big radio.

West Marine ( http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prmenbr=201&prrfnbr=50800&outlet=YES ) is clearing clearing out its inventory of  Standard/Vertex SporTalk FRS radios for $29.88. They normally go $80-$100 apiece. Standard makes excellent commercial, aviation, marine and ham radio equipment. This model has commercial-quality construction, with gasketed controls and an O-ringed battery compartment (not waterproof, but damn close). Also, audio quality is exceptional, and the tone system is compatibile with Maxon and Motorola FRS radios.
