www.smh.com.au/news/national/mothers-blue-tattoo-leaves-airline-cabin-crew-redfaced/2006/02/06/1139074171403.html Mother's blue tattoo leaves airline cabin crew red-faced By Jordan Baker February 7, 2006 FOR five years, Peta Bull's tattoo of a naked man and woman embracing hardly raised an eyebrow - not at work, not in public, not even at her daughter's school, where she helps out from time to time. Then she flew Jetstar. Soon after boarding a flight to Brisbane last month, the 36-year-old said she was asked to cover the tattoo on her shoulder blade - even though singlet straps already hid the most potentially offensive bit - or get off the plane. The crew said there were children on board and some passengers might be offended. In front of other passengers, they gave her a jacket and told her to wear it until she reached the terminal. Ms Bull said she was too shocked to argue. "It was humiliating. I couldn't see the problem. [Because of the straps] nobody could have worked out what the picture was. I was very embarrassed." She said another passenger with a four-letter word on his T-shirt was not asked to cover up. "I felt like I had been singled out. I have never experienced anything like that before." The tattoo shows a man sitting behind a woman, who is lying back and propped up on her elbows. He holds one arm across her breasts and another over her crotch. "It's not sexual," Ms Bull said. Cameron Murphy, president of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties, said it was a censorship issue. He said staff should be encouraging people to fly rather than policing body art. "I think the operators of Jetstar should be more sensible," he said. "It's really an issue of freedom of expression. There's no particular reason why something like that could cause any problem for people." Ms Bull, a cleaner and mother of two from Mackay in central Queensland, tried to call the airline to complain after the January 26 flight but was told to write a letter. She sent the letter as registered mail on Friday. A Jetstar spokesman, Simon Westaway, said the company would look into the issue when it received the letter. The conditions of flight stated crew members were entitled to address matters that might upset other passengers. "Our cabin crew aren't the social police," Mr Westaway said. "[But] at the end of the day the comfort of all the passengers needs to be taken into consideration. Our cabin crew clearly felt that they needed to ask her to cover up a little bit." |

Of all the things in the world to worry about... I guess they do what they can instead of what they should, so at the end of the day they can say they did something. Even if it counts for nothing.

Get a pornographic tattoo and then you're surprised when it is contentious....

Fuck you, sow. Get on the bus with the rest of the folks from the trailer park. The fact that most people aren't usually willing to step up to the plate and tell you you're an obnoxious pig attention-whore doen't mean nobody's allowed to.
So Jetstar is willing to single you out and recognize you as special. What are you complaining about?
Hey, my wife has a gold stud in her earlobe. I guess every floppy-assed "look at me" human tampon string with $300 for a ticket should be allowed to display the gold stud in her clitoral hood. Guess what, cunt? If the guy who owns the plane feels like it, he can allow my sister to display her crucifix while requiring you to stow your dream catcher and magic wand in your carryon. I guess attention whores crave only positive attention. |

I wanna see it, sounds kind of hot.
Although the bitch is being melodramatic, I doubt it was anything that would have scarred the poor, helpless children. I saw Michaelangelo's "David" when I was 6, I didn't grow up to fancy naked men, or small penises. |

It used to be there was a dress code for traveling and people would respect it. Bare shoulders (tattoo or not) did not qualify.
The only thing more humiliating than being asked to cover your tattoo of two people getting it on.... is having a tattoo of two people getting it on.
I wonder if I complain that the stewardness is so ugly, its offending to my eyes, that they will make her cover up her face........
And get the same reaction that the twit with tat got... |
People are so uptight over a little body art......we should learn to embrace the expressions of the person and be more understanding of what they're trying to say.

It's the feminine of Peter, common in Spain & Italy. Oh wait, you were making a joke. It means nutjob. |

Everybody used to wear suits. Women wore dresses. People took pride in themselves. Now...everybody dresses like eight-year old boys (t-shirt, baseball cap, shorts/jeans/sweatpants, sneakers), and wears tattoos like something out of a 1920s gay bar. "Look at me- I'm special!" |

Yup, I remember those days. Days when traveling was something special, where you were treated with respect and dignity by the flight and ground crews, people traveling were civilized members of society... then came deregulation and the airlines became nothing more than cattle cars with wings, a faster version of Greyhound. Beancounters rule everything and every inch of cabin space, every shortcut that can squeeze another 2 cents of profit out of the flight will be ruthlessly enforced by corporate drones that can't lift a finger to do anything outside of "company policy" lest they find themselves kicked to the curb. I DO wholeheartedly agree that people have become total pigs devoid of even the most basic inkling of self-esteem and self-awareness. Gather them in large groups as when traveling and it becomes just that much more obvious |

+1 Even on commercial airlines, the aircraft commander makes the final decision on who flies and who doesn't, regardless of the reason. |

Airlines used to make sure their passengers were comfortable and well cared for. Now, it's up to the passenger. Most airlines these days are like flying the Soviet, Siberian Express. |

Plenty of people on this site ripped me for criticizing the jackasses who wore their wifebeaters, ball caps, and knee-plus baggy shorts to pass Regan's coffin as he lay in state in the Capitol Rotunda.

I see they have trailer parks in Australia as well. Still, not offensive enough to kick her off the plane. |
It'd be OK w/m if they pitched her for wearing a sleeveless shirt and.or an exposed bra strap- though they have the right, of course, to pitch her because the shirt is pink.

Cameron Murphy, president of the NSW Council for Civil Liberties = left wing nut bag.
Think ACLU. They'll bitch and moan about anything if it gets them press coverage. |
Damn she is brutial....
AHAHAHA someone in an earlier post used "dream catcher" in this thread, sorry but to whom ever used it, you made my day, I just found it very funny for some odd reason....maybe I need to get some sleep too. |

Yea, she's really improved her looks with that tatoo and those extra earrrings.

Does not compute. If you think it was wrong to be asked to cover it, that's fine, but don't flat-out lie about it. |
You want to fly on their plane, you play by their rules. Just like if you want to come into my house, you don't wear/display items that I find offensive.
Don't like it? Take the bus. |

Man, she's looks ugly in that picture! This goes back to my theory that it isn't sexual harassment if the there aren't any ugly people involved. Let this be a lesson. If you're ugly, keep a low profile!
