If an ANIMAL is killing its own and then itself, what you are doing is just plain wrong.
I am rarely disgusted by the things that humans do, but this one does. |

I don't believe for a minute that a bear killed it's cub to save it from torture or committed suicide. I don't doubt that unspeakable acts are committed on animals in China but a bear committing suicide? That's baloney

This story true or not, I don't care. Killing varmints - fine. Killing something to eat it - have at it. Killing something to hang it's head on your wall - don't have a problem with that either. Torture an animal for your own amusement - forfeit your right to live among us. Shoot you right in the face, I could, and sleep like a baby.

We milk cows, they milk bears.
There are cultural differences in the world. If you grew up next to a place that did this to bears you would probably think anyone who thought something was wrong with it was stupid. Humans are the apex predator, we are so far in front of our next competitor that we sometimes make "slaves" for lack of a better term out of other species. Like milk cows and in China...... bile bears. I'll worry about the kid in America that is not getting breakfast this morning, instead of this suicidal bear. But don't let me stop you from your fun in this thread....carry on. |

The bears are fitted with an iron vest, as they often try to kill themselves by hitting their stomach as they are unable to bear the pain.
Really? Couldn't say "handle" the pain? |

Bear bile sounds delicious, but I'd only drink ethically-collected bile from bears raised on organic farms.

If animals were capable of "killing themselves", there would be way more of this going on.
That part of the story is BS. As for the assholes keeping the bears locked-up like that...I say they should suffer the same treatment. I would then believe it if THEY killed themselves. |

Some people are offended at the manner in which veal is often raised, I don't know that it's all that different than a lot of modern industrial agriculture. I know I'm somewhat normal, but appear to be jaded. I was raised on a farm where we killed dinner and killed our dogs if they were sick and then as I was a young teen, I went to work at a dairy. One of my jobs was to feed the babies and clean the pens we raised the babies in. The pens were about 1 foot wide and about 3 feet long. When those calves were about 6 weeks old, we let them out to have their first steps. Still to this day, that is one of the funniest things I have ever seen is watching 6 week old calves learn to walk. That would be "cruelty" to most of the posters here who think milk comes in a jug from a store, but kinda know somewhere on almost another planet or something there is a cow that ate some grass 2 days ago to make that milk, but really visualize Elsie and nothing else. |

The bile is harvested by making a permanent hole or fistula in the bears' abdomen and gall bladder.
As the hole is never closed, the animals are suspect to various infections and diseases including tumours, cancers and death from peritonitis. |

As the hole is never closed, the animals are suspect to various infections and diseases including tumours, cancers and death from peritonitis. It is exactly the same thing as picking a tomato, or milking a cow. There are harvesting a resource. It bothers you because you don't do it everyday. There are a shitload of places here in America who do research on animals who do things even worse. Get over it. We use animals to make our lives better. They are animals we are humans. Until they become the dominate apex predator, we do things to them. When they become the dominate species, they will do terrible things to us. It is called nature......we are just way better at it than any other animal. |

I'm the last person to be a PETA drone, but if you are equating milking dairy cows with this procedure, then you shouldn't own firearms.
