I have a Mossberg 500 and the stock is just a tad long for me and was wondering if anyone knows where to find a shorter stock maybe with a pistol grip for it, if no pistol grip no biggie?

The problem with pistol grip stocks on Mossbergs is it negates easy use of the safety. I prefer a traditional buttstock for the 500's.

Hogue makes a shorter stock that has the overmolded rubber on it. Well built and comfortable with a decent price.

Is it a wood stock or synthetic? if its wood just trim it and refit the recoil pad.. You can do the same with a synthetic but you may need to fill the stock with something like epoxy to get the screws to seat in.. I have only done wood ones

Probably find a youth stock on ebay.

Sorry, its a synthetic stock. I would also like to replace the plastic safety switch.

I will check out Hogue stocks.

Thanks. I've yet to have a problem with mine, but I dont want to wait till I do to replace that plastic POS

However, you do have to disassemble the shotgun to replace it. You cant just unscrew the screw, R&R the selector, and replace the screw. Its pretty simple to do though.

Thats the one I was looking at on the Hogue site, but did not have specs on it. I may just head over to a local dealer and see what they have and if it cheaper to just order it I may just do that.

Thanks

I chopped a couple inches off a synthetic one, no problems at all...

Are you sure it's too short? read this "Setting up the Fighting Shotgun" thread about 1/3 of the way down talks about proper LOP.....

I put a Hogue on mine but a 14" size.

Speedfeed 1 stock is perfect for me. 13 7/8 LOP. The Original stocks are usually 14.5 and way too long for me. Oh and CTD has the best price on speedfeed. Yes you can use or not use the shell holders for hunting and or HD.

+1 on the speed feed it is just a little shorter.By the way it doesn"t have a pistol grip.

I have a Hogue 12" LOP on mine and it's a little too short. I have a Kick Eez slip-on recoil pad on order from Midway which should increase LOP to about 13.5", per Arfcommer Milo5.

The ATI 6 position AR type stock for those is not horrible for the price
but it is not exactly strong or rigid

I put a Blackhawk/Knoxx adjustable stock on my 590A. I've been happy with it.

I have one of those Knoxx stocks on my 500. Got it for $30 off Ebay.

It's a nice durable stock and I like being able to adjust the LOP for different shooters. Course, with a pistol grip your reach for the safety is screwed.

To me, the safety button is not that important.

The best safety is following basic firearms safety rules.

With that said, trigger finger discipline and muzzle discipline should give you "time" to safety your weapon.

I don't own or use a Mossy but I am a lifelong Rem 870 dude.

True.
Though, I will admit, I never activate a safety on a shotgun. Rifles, pistols...yes. I keep my 500 safety off, chamber empty. Just the way I was taught and I never changed it. May also come from shooting Sporting/skeet etc for years. Never associated a safety with a shotgun.

I like the rail you got there. Needs to get me one and put an optic on it.

Agreed, though to some folks it's important. I rarely use the safety.

I've been looking to get a better red dot on that rail but that one works fine for the time being...
