[email protected]An elderly Franklin man buried his beloved wife on Tuesday. As if that was not bad enough, he was robbed in the hospital elevator Friday while on his way to visit her for what turned out to be the last time.
Franklin police now hope the public can help them identify the quick acting criminals.
Police and hospital security believe the three men distracted the elderly man and stole his wallet in under three minutes.
The men, described by police as black males, were caught on surveillance video entering the main entrance of Williamson Medical Center on Friday afternoon.
One man went toward the hospital cafeteria and disappeared for a moment.
The other thief appeared to linger in the lobby while the elderly victim entered the hospital unaware of what was about to happen. Two of the men walk ahead of the victim as he made his way to the hospital elevator.
The third man then came from behind and appeared to signal the others. All four men then entered the elevator, and what happened next is out of surveillance camera's range.
According to Franklin police, one of the men pretended his arm was stuck inside the elevator door. The others assisted him, and one of robbers then stepped on the elderly man's foot.
After this, the thieves decided to exit the elevator while the victim made the trip to the 4th floor by himself. It was only then that he realized his wallet is gone.
The victim had made a trip to the bank just before visiting his wife, and he believes he was followed by the robbers.
At least they didn't beat him up.
