Jackson Mayor Frank Melton tonight plans to begin a series of overnight stays with various residents in their homes or apartments.

In a news release the mayor said he plans to make several visits during the next few months.

“The visitations are an effort by the mayor and the administration to become better acquainted with the people of Jackson and to see first hand living conditions experienced by citizens in each neighborhood and community in the city,” the release stated.

Tonight Melton will stay with a family identified as the Austins at Christian Brotherhood Homes on Skyview Drive in northwest Jackson.

In August 2006, Melton threatened to close down Christian Brotherhood Homes after housing inspectors said they observed leaky roofs and dead animals on the complex grounds.

“I’m going to file a petition to close them down,” Melton told The Clarion-Ledger in August. “I’m going to have my human services and my housing people work with those tenants to help them find other places to live like we did at (Jackson Apartments) on Maple Street.”

The 200-unit complex was allowed to continue operating after management promised to complete a series of repairs, including painting and repairing the buildings' wooden siding, replacing window and door screens and fixing the roofing.

Was the house he and the "kids" went at with sledgehammers really a crackhouse?

I think the judge ruled that you couldn't say "crackhouse" in the courtroom.

So is this the same guy that was carrying a firearm without a CCW or POST certification and telling everyone he was exempt from the law and the state attorneys office indicted him?

The very one. Apparently, a member at glocktalk is also a law student at a local college and noticed the mayor was carrying one day while on campus for a conference, notified the AG, and things took off from there.

He worked up a deal with DA.  Plead no contest to 2 misdemeanors, and the felony charge was dropped.  Funny thing is, the ACLU is still after him for profiling.

You can't meet the Duke! Are you crazy? Nobody gets to meet the Duke. You meet him once and then you're dead!

He went ahead and finally got his CCW, but it was way after the fact. Also, it only took him a week or so to get his(pulling strings, anyone?), instead of the usual 90 days. When I applied for mine(on a december 17) once it was all said and done they told me it would be in on march 17. Sure enough, 3 months later on march 17 I watched the postman pull up and put it in my mailbox.

It might have been 120, I can't remember off the top of my head. It was whatever was the maximum time allowed by law for them to take before it is issued, so it might have been 120 after all.
