Does anyone know? It seems to me that every picture I see of insurgents is some yahoo holding an AK with no buttstock and firing from waist high. How can you hit anything that way.

It seems that almost all of the deaths you hear about are from explosive devices.

Anyone know for sure?

(edit for dumbass spelling mistake)

Not sure but I would have to agree with you.

Most wounds come from fragments, most deaths occur because of gun shot wounds. The reasons for this is troops have more protection from frag in the way of their helmets, OTV and the armor of their vehicles (limited protection in some against rifle fire also). The SAPI plate addition to the armor is the only portion that will stop most rifle fire and it covers a relatively small portion as opposed the coverage of the rest of the armor.

If we got ride of the armor we would see allot more deaths from Frag, but allot less traumatic amputations and wounds.

More than half of ALL U.S. deaths in Iraq are the result of IEDs. They are very hard to detect and easily adaptable making them, unfortunately, very effective.
