An adult male passenger in a vehicle being pursued by police died Wednesday after the vehicle crashed into a tree, police said. Minneapolis police released the dash cam video from the accident today.

The driver, also an adult male, was being treated for injuries.

Police received a description of a vehicle that was involved in a shooting incident earlier Wednesday evening. There were reports that shots were being fired from the vehicle, police said in a news release.

Officers spotted a vehicle matching the description and turned on their red lights and siren in an attempt to stop the motorist. The driver sped away and crashed into a tree at 26th and Dupont Avenue North a short time later, police said.

A gun was recovered from the scene, police said.

The two officers involved in the chase have been placed on paid administrative leave, per department policy, while the incident is being investigated.

On the evening broadcast the neighborhood folks were upset and claiming the officer was at fault for the crash. This one lady even said the police hit the suspect vehicle causing it to go into the tree. The video shows otherwise!

Shame those people are saying all that. Glad the officers were unharmed in the chase.

Lets just say the racial make up of the area would prompt some to understand why those things were said and those saying them don't like the po-lice too much.

I got no problem with that. Pursuing a vehicle from which shots had been fired within the previous hour... Driver had the option to stop. He decided to drive that fast. Another symptom of a citizen of modern society's penchant for not accepting blame for things they do. Darwin only batted .500 on this one, though. Still a good average, but it would have been more fitting had the driver died and the passenger survived.

officers were not at fault. the idiot driving is at fault you should not run from the police. i hate the public sometimes.

too bad someone had to die, but it wasnt a man in blue it was the bad guy. we call that natural selection

Perp dead? How's the tree?

That poor tree. That sucks.

The public are sheep. We need to start asking people what they think should have been done. I've tried and when you ask, people don't have any idea what should have been done. They just don't like what was done.

If you aren't part of (or have) the solution to a problem, then you ARE part of the problem.

Driver obviously wasn't from NASCAR.

He'd have turned left. Everyone knows that cars go faster turning left.
