Im sure i will get alot of tounge in cheek answers but I find odd to see this term used as often as it is by gun  people
sorry excuse for a rant  I know

If you are referring to poor workmanship it sounds about right.   If it is short for shotgun then I think it sounds ghetto. But thats only if you axe me.

I wonder, are these people who use the term "shottie" also the ones who believe the "sound of racking slide" will cause a BG to soil themselves and run away?

The first time I ever heard "shotty gun"  was reading Horn of the Hunter by Robert Ruark.  It was written in 1954.  Both Ruark and his PH, Harry Selby, used the the term interchangeably for their 12 and 16 gauge shotguns.  They never struck me as effeminate.  I don't use the term very often (when I do,I am joking with one of my hunting buddies), never hear it, and it doesn't bother me.

"Shottie" and "addie" are irritating - it ain't American English, it makes the users sound like some sort of British subject.

I call all revolvers "Rosco's" & there's a guy I work with that refers to all handguns as "whips".
