Greetings all,

My father retired a while back after 26 years in the Air Force.  He is now ill with cancer and will not last long.  I'm trying to help my mother with some financial planning and was wondering if anyone knows where I can look to see how much, if any, of my father's retirement pension my mother would receive after he is gone.

I'm poking around on the web too, but figured someone here may be able to point me in the right direction.

Thanks

I believe this is what you're looking for:

Survivor Benefit Plan

If you have access to his Retiree Account Statement, you can check it to see if he is paying for SBP.

If your father isn't paying premiums for SBP, unfortunately your mother will not receive any portion of his retired pay.  (When your father retired, your mother had to make the decision as to whether or not to participate in the SBP).

The spouse of the retiring military member is the decision-maker on whether or not to participate in the SBP.
