I got back from the Nashville MEPS on saturday at 3:00.

I signed a 8 year contract for the ARMY.
My mos is 95b10 (Military Police)

Anyone here have prior experience with this mos ? Or can tell me what to expect ?

It is the best MOS you can ask for. If you get a line combat unit you will spend a lot of time in the field doing convey escorts and such. If you get a garrison type unit then you will spend more time doing civilian type law enforcement. Some units rotate doing both every few weeks or months with other MP units on post if there are more than one. If you get a chance to go SRT and PSD I recommend both.

I was a 95B. Did 18 months in Gremany in the early 80's. I did enjoy it. But spending most of my time on top of a mountain guarding nukes can be real boring.

95B is pretty cool.  I love doing the combat MP duties.  But it does suck when you stand at a gate for 12 hours a day 6 days a week.

Active or reserve?
If reserve, great. You will love it, LE, field, guard (actual security guard stuff), or PW units, it's all fun.
If active, all units are pretty much the same and 8 years is a long time, so try to get something special by asking for it (a lot) after the first year or two, like traffic, MPI, dog, DARE, bike.

Im going reserve. Its 6 years Active reserve and 2 years inactive.

The maximum time on an enlistment is 8 years.
Most people who enlist for the first time for 4 years don't realize that even though their active duty obligation ends at 4 years they still have 4 more years in the active / inactive reserve to do.

Well USNJoe, I was very aware of the whole 8 year deal. No matter what your enlistment is for , they got ya for eight total,yada,yada,yada
I just can't recall anyone I've known who signed for longer than six initially. Gotta give yourself a chance to test the waters ya know.
For Knowledge, all I can say is my hat's off to him. MPs ain't popular, but I can't think of many MOSs that have shittier schedules or work longer hours.

How come I feel everyone starts out that way? We'll see how you act after your indoctrination.

Hopefully some of the people on this board will have impressed you with following the constitution. But in todays military, I don't know what will happen. I encourage you to be another Michael New. Hopefully you won't be at some civilian roadblock checking our papers.

I've never posted much on this board but have been hanging around for a few years.  I also just got out of the Army Last August, MOS:95B

Being an MP can be fun, but it will definately depend on your unit.  I am not sure about the reserves as I was active the whole time and each reserve unit is different.

As the others have mentioned there are garrison and field MP duties.  I always found Garrison to be more fun, because I was a reserve Deputy before joining the Army and I liked interacting with people and getting realistic experience on patrol.  Field duties are good, too, especially driving around as a gunner on a Humvee!

Remember, you might be treated like nothing more than a glorified security guard when in garrison.  If you want to be a LEO later, it is (in my experience) a lot different.  So don't judge a career in Law Enforcement by your MP experience!  A lot of times MP's are tasked with guarding weapons or entrances to the post and it can be boring.  Civilian LEO are much more independent and have much less supervision.

Just remember to be a PROFFESIONAL!  Don't sleep on patrol, hand out unnecesarry tickets, or abuse your authority.  Your MP Brassard (armband) is a symbol of the trust the Army has in you to do what's right.

Also, remember that the Military Police are the "Force of Choice" in the Army now, to deploy, because they can handle diverse roles. So be prepared to be sent to Kosovo or other hotspots as they appear.

Lastly, Some of the training the MP School gives you is not very thorough.  They expect your unit to provide you a lot of further training when you graduate.  You are given no emergency driving courses with a patrol car (basic Humvee driving only)Your firearms training with your main MP weapon the M9 (9mm Beretta 92FS) is laughable and in no way prepares you to protect your self.  This also applies to your M-16 rifle as you will only learn very basic marksmanship.

So learn all you can and discard the dumb things that fellow recruits and even some instructors say.

Assist, Protect, Defend

If you are national guard then the unit you start with you will stay with, so go to several of the units drills of see what goes on. Ask epople what the units focus missions are and how things go on there. Unlike other units, NG units stay intact for many many years, only commanders rotate every 2 years or so.
Pick a type of unit you think you will really like, as the NG still has the special units.

As far as the reserve, if that's what you signed up for, transfers are easier to get and the units tend to be more like AD units and you can get a wide range of experiences.

Welcome to the MP corps. Prepare to have your but worked off.

I'm assigned to a Garrison(Law Enforcement) Reserve unit. We were activated after 911 and deployed to Ft Hood for Law Enforcement duties.  LE units are on the way out,  most are being converted to combat or EPW units.

No one has bothered telling us when we can go home.

Active duty MP commanders HATE law enforcement duty.  It's not a career builder. They don't train their people, short-staff commitments, and generally make it as low a priority as possible.  You will receive no training worth the name.  Some reserve units are pretty good with training, since they are full of civilian police.  You will find the reserves have a MUCH higher training standard than the Active army.  It's really obvious.

The active Army will screw over the reserves in a heartbeat.    
We're attached to the 89th MP brigade.  Since 911 we have yet to have a 2 days off in a row,  no training days, no time for anything but road duties.  6 days on, 1 day off  12 hour shifts.  

In theory,  we're supposed to be supplied and supported by the 89th.  In reality,  until the unit was issued an Impact card,  We bought everything out of pocket at Walmart.  Took us 5 months to get office and barracks space. (Construction trailers, 12 people to a single wide) We were scattered all over post before that.  The only "support" we get from the 89th are barracks inspections and mission taskings they cannot fulfill because the active units wants to have a "family day".

You'll get activated a lot.  My unit members has been to Desert Storm, Bosnia, Haiti, Honduras, Kuwait, and Now Ft Hood. We try and rotate the activations so people can keep a civilian job.  I cannot recall any time in the past 10 years when we didn't have people on activation somewhere.

It looks like I'm going to be here when my retirement comes along,  but I cannot retire.  MP's are under Stop Loss.  That means you are mission essential.  You cannot leave when your enlistment is up, you cannot retire, and you cannot go to schools or transfer to a different unit.
