Does anyone have any experience with these? Its a 1997 that has 4600miles, looks good from pics. They want 2500 OBO..I know what to look for as far as running condition, leaks, suspension but just wanted to see if there is anything out of the ordinary I need to watch out for and Id like to know if anyone has done much interstate traveling with a single thumper b4.

Go for it.... I used to ride a Honda XL350, never on Interstae, but plenty of highway use w/ no probs. The 650 should rock and roll....

Those are great bikes. The Suzuki makes good power with a few simple mods. The suspension is not as long travel as the Honda XR650L, but it's worlds better than the KLR650. So, it makes a very good dual sport with a nice balance between street and dirt.

They actually do quite well on the trails too. Not too heavy. Just don't expect world class suspension action over the whoops.

I like that bike far more than the DRZ400.

You're right, I was thinking it was an 07, not a 97.
More like $1800 if it's in really good shape.

Define "interstate".  Not sure I'd want to ride a thumper on something like I-5 thru the San Joaqin(sp?) valley or I-10 along the Gulf Coast.

Up here in wine country it'd be a great bike - Hwy 101 is only 2 lanes each direction (1 lane each direction for a large part) and there isn't a lot of traffic.

Could be done but there are better bikes if you're going to ride that much interstate.

The DR is a great dual sport but biased a little more to off road than, say the KLR650.  If you want a dual sport to use on that much highway look at the KLR.

The Suzuki DL650 Vstrom might be a good bike for you too.

KLRs are way too tall for me, BTDT, cant get my leg over , lol

VStorm is barely a dual sport bike IMO, way too heavy for what I want to do.

Most of my riding will be trails, putting around town and once a month or so, taking 2hour trip down the interestate.

You'll be fine on the interstate, hell I take my WR250X on the interstate daily to work cruising in the 60-80 range.

I don't like that kind of riding on my '02 VFR much less a single cylinder with very litttle wind protection.  Hell, that's Gold Wing territory in my book.

For 2 hours?  Not my idea of fun.

Actually, that's exactly where this bike does really well. You will be just fine at 65 (not faster) and plenty comfortable. You'll even get 55 MPG at that speed.
