Just got off the phone with a plumber; we had a drop ceiling in the basement and after I ripped it down I found our why; lots of wiring under the joists, and a big ol' gas line that hangs down three or so inches from the bottom of a joist (this feeds into the hot water and heating).

If we can move the gas line a foot to one side and tuck it under the AC line so that they are in parallel, we can just have that one area around a center beam that we can drywall around and keep the rest of the ceiling at the normal height under the joists. This line comes into the house from the meter and takes a few short turns, and that is where the work will take place.

Gentleman wants 800.00 plus materials; looks like it will require a few elbows and threading the line at maybe two spots.  The long main line  - maybe 20ft - will be re-used....so maybe 900-1000.00 total?   Also we're in Northern VA so of course there's a libtard surcharge (not really but everything costs more here).

I also assume working with gas is expensive (?).   Thanks in advance! - Bunny

Call 3 plumbers for quotes, and you'll have 3 wildly different prices.

FWIW: Last month I had a gas line run for a dryer.  It involved cutting an existing line, installing a T, running a new line 6 feet long, running it through a drywall wall, terminating it, connecting the flex pipe and connecting that to the dryer, and testing everything.  The Okaloosa County (FL) Gas District charged me $189 total.

If they just put two unions above the drywall ceiling no.
They should take it apart back to the offset point and reroute it from that point.
Good luck.

Just do it yourself. It'll be cheap and easy. Spend time on each joint. When turned on if you don't feel good about it spray all joints with soapy water.

I just redid my outdoor gas line to my BBQ. HD carries nipples from close (1") up to 48" and then will thread whatever you need. Buy the good dope. Easy.
As far as price check? Guys gotta eat too. Get two more quotes.

Fittings are eight bucks each.

Use pipe dope and NOT teflon tape.

Ground as necessary according to electrical code.

Leave drop ceiling in place. If you ever need to run a line, or do any work, you'll be cursing yourself while covered in drywall dust for putting up drywall.
