But some students say the change isn't fair.
"College students have so much debt as it is in the United States. It's hard for them to be able to pay all their bills,” Wayne State University student Erik Boyes told MyFoxDetroit. "That could potentially be a negative impact for students," added Wayne State student Mohammed Almihtar. "Maybe they're going to have a hard time enrolling in school. That's going to push the education back, and that's not a wise way to do that." http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/08/09/michigan-kicks-30000-college-students-off-food-stamps/?test=latestnews Welcome to the real world. |

It caused a big shit fit among the turds on our campus. Every single little pig-fucker I've yet met that's had one used it solely for party fodder and trading for beer.
|
|
Yet, no mention of colleges cutting their prices to compensate in assisting these poor students......hmmmm?
|
|
How is it that I paid for every meal in college, and these kids think they're entitled to a free lunch?
ETA - Ah, I remember now - I held a JOB. |
|
...Under the new rules, only single moms and students who work 20 hours a week may be able to keep their benefits, MyFoxDetroit.com reported.....
hey, I see a solution in there for all the hungry college students. |
|
Learning how to eat "on the cheap" was one of many valuable life skills I learned while in college.
Do more with less. You're there to learn how to survive in the real world. IMO the university is doing them a favor. |
|
As a Michigan tax payer, I support this step. But it's only a step.
|
|
College students don't need to accrue debt. Go leech off of someone else ya prick.

May I suggest they get part time jobs to feed themselves instead of partying/drinking non-stop? A college student could work 20 hrs a week and eat pretty good IF they plan it right.
Oh wait..most of them don't know how to cook and have beer/party as a higher priority. Welcome to the real world kids.. |

Welcome to the real world. Yup, now get a job and quit drinking so much. |

Holy cry me a fucking river.
I was a resident assistant for my sophomore and junior years to help pay for room/board and also they put money on your food card. My senior year I worked three jobs while maintaining 18 hours a semester. My first and second year in grad school I kept working those same three jobs to get by. Ramen was my meal of choice. These fucking panzies have been coddled for far too long. The gravy train just stopped. Either die or figure out how to live....I could care less which one you do. My third year of Grad school I became employed by the Fed Bureau of Prisons. The job sucks but the pay is good. I've been working with them for 3.5 years now and still trying to complete my Masters (classes on the weekends). But you know what, the BOP still has a metric shit ton of job openings and doesn't take a rocket scientist or an engineering degree to become employed. America is lazy. |

More from the Detroit News
Many see using food stamps while attending school as a scam, and former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick described it in much that way in his new autobiography.
Kilpatrick, who was recently released from state prison after serving time for violating probation and awaits trial on federal corruption charges, revealed he used food stamps when he attended Florida A&M University in the late 1980s and early 1990s. At the time, his mother was a state representative and his father was a top Wayne County official. "The food stamp game is an old hook-up in neighborhoods from Detroit to Tallahassee," Kilpatrick said in the book. "If you could get them, especially as a struggling college student, then you did." .......... As the twig is bent so grows the tree. |

Good! I had a p/t job in college to make end meet. I see no reason why the entitlement generation can't do the same.....

At my school they invested heavily in pad locks on the toilet paper dispensors. No plastic "church key" to open them, you needed bolt cutters.

They should do what I did, get a fucking job. I worked full time at nights doing mall ninja shit while I worked on my Computer Science degree and still managed to graduate as Valedictorian.

Didn't even know they were eligible. Michigan thing maybe? Michigan was apparently one of the few states to permit this. |

That works out to $2,500/year/student. $200/month for food for a college student? WTF??
No wonder they're fat. |
|
30,000 people, 75 million dollars. That doesn't add up in my book.
I supported myself through college. I held a full time job, made house and car payments, paid for my own food, etc. It can be done. |
|
So wait, I'm paying 1400-1600 per semester for a meal plan here in VA... Were there people getting free meal plans in MI vs. earning scholarships or working for the money?

I live in Michigan, I am in school, I work (2 jobs), I DON’T get any assistance or financial aid, never did. Why was I paying for those 30,000 freeloaders to eat? Was I paying for their tuition too? A place for them to live? What do they have to do to get this assistance? This topic really burns my ass. Get a f***ing job you 30,000 lazy bums. What we are creating is a society addicted to assistance and no work effort. Too many handouts. I hope they are all U.S. citizens.

Wait a minute. You mean I'm going to have to pay for my own food? I cant believe this. How am I suppose to do that? Totally unfair

Sounds like they should live with in their means. I had no problem eating in college....

I worked at three different Sorority houses as a bus boy/server for meal services while in college, free meals all day.

If they saved 75 mil by cutting that funding then people were obviously taking advantage of the program... Im sure there are a few that could really use the program (Edit actually if you can't go to school and afford your own lunch, then you don't need to go to college). I would imagine that the program was easy to get on board and it was being overly taken advantage of. 75mil to feed college kids pft.
I imagine it like this: Get food stamps, sell to family/friends for cash. Buy whatever you want... |
|
I was in the Navy and I managed to get a degree without food stamps.

"Welcome to Wendy's may I take your order"
"Two $.99 Jr Bacon Cheeseburgers please." ^How everyone else survived college^
