I'm Dominican and that was freaking hilarious.
Are there a lot of Dominicans in Alaska?
Actually, yeah. The latino community up here is huge. No idea why though. Ton of mexicans, cubans, puerto ricans, and a few dominicans tossed in. (Although, outside my family, I have only met 3)
I was the head cook at a resturant where the owner was cuban, his wife was mexican, and I was the token dominican. That was an awesome job though. Shame that restaurant closed down (bad location)
A lot of places in the interior you will hear spanish being spoken. One of the hilarious things is that a local restaurant (taco king) has a ton of mexicans working there. I eat there every now and again because the food is *exactly* how I grew up cooking it. I had to explain lengua tacos to my coworkers one day when we ordered out.
Back on that story though, they have a radio ad with a white guy doing a freaking horrible mexican accent. Why the hell didn't they just use one of the mexican employees?
I get a kick out of the looks I get when I check "hispanic" on forms. My mom is irish/scottish/english, dad is full blood dominican and came over in the 50's. Unless I get in the sun (and get my olive tan) I look extremely white
Now if you will excuse me, this made me think that I have not had horchata in a long time and I have mix next to the fridge
