TEMPLE HILLS, October 9 - The Southern Avenue Metro station was closed after a suspicious incident Tuesday morning. A Metro spokesman said a scuffle broke out between a transit officer and man on a train. The train stopped at the station and the fight continued onto a platform.

The spokesman said the man was carrying a jar that had a substance in it that fell onto the platform. He did not know if the jar broke or what it contained.

The station was evacuated and closed shortly before 11:30 a.m. A HAZMAT team was on the scene.

Transit police took the man into custody and did not know of any injuries.

Metro was transporting passengers on buses to the Congress Heights and Naylor Road stations.
