Suppose it's a decent idea these days.  Most "artists" put out singles only due to the whole cell phone thing.  GNR did it in the 90s and it worked well, I think.  Could possibly be a great way to actually sell CDs now....to put out so much material, that one would rather buy it to own in hand rather than stream it from their sh#t speaker phone.

Maybe...who knows? Myself, I buy the CD or CDs no matter what, but I'm one of those weirdos that likes to read the liner notes and have something tangible for my money. The general public, though? They DGAF.
