What's the difference between a metal lathe and a wood lathe, other than one is for wood and one for metal?

Wood lathes generally have a lighter frameand run at a higher RPM with less horsepower and a fixed tool rest.
The tool is hand held and moved.

Metal lathes have a guided tool running on ways to accuratly position it and take the higher forces involved in cutting metals.
