I don't normally play the lottery but when it's a big pot I'll throw $20 on it.  Anyone else buying a few tickets?
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:24:22 AM EDT
I might spend a $2 bill
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:24:40 AM EDT
Sure...why not. I don't mind giving a little extra money to the education fund.
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:26:36 AM EDT
Same here.  Don't play, but for a chance for $400M, i'll toss $2 at it.

I always say, your chances increase a whole lot more from $0 to $2 than from $2 to $4.
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:28:21 AM EDT
Spent 4 bucks.............odds are never in my favor, but what the heck
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:32:14 AM EDT
We always get in it at work, you never know, kills me people say they will keep workingnot me brother.
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:33:20 AM EDT
I bought a $1 for the hell of it...why not.
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:34:51 AM EDT
If I win I'm building a off grid underground compound into the side of a Wyoming or Utah mountain with about 10k acres around me.  I want to be so damn remote you use a ski lift to get to my front door.

Build an amazing garage down at the road and throw in a few RV hookups so buddies can come do some shooting.
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:34:58 AM EDT
When I win my intent is not to piss it all away on stuff, women, friends, drugs and die broke.

Until that first day they show up to work and realize they don't really have to be there. Or the first time they want to go on vacation and can't get the day off.

I buy 1 ticket for each mega drawing.  I figure I can afford to donate $104 a year.

Single winner payout would be in the $160 million range.

Anyone that says they'd keep working is an idiot and you might not want to associate with them.

Like above poster stated, My odds absolutely skyrocket from 0$ to 2$.

160 mil payout will leave me about 50 mil, and 110 of my closest friends and family millionaires.

Maybe I'll buy one today.

I'll get 1 ticket.  Any more than that is a waste.  (and the $ on one ticket is already a waste)
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 7:54:35 AM EDT
I spent $2 on tickets. Anybody saying "DERRRR HUH HUH U SO STUPID" must be dirt shit ass poor because I don't have a high paying job but $2 is insignificant for risk compared to the reward. Not that I give a fuck what other people think.

Somebody in the town over from me just won the last Powerball drawing.  Split  $122 million with someone in Maryland.

The lotto is for people who can't math.

If I did win I would give notice and work hard until the end of my last day.  I like my job, and the people if work for, and my team.  I don't think I'm an idiot but there you go...

I didn't buy a ticket, and I have approximately the same chance to win as you guys.

Good luck!

Why not?  That actually sounds like a BLAST.
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 8:12:52 AM EDT
1 ticket kind of makes sense on risk return models due to the low buy in and extreme but remote return on investment.  Bunking any more than one ticket draws a negative in investment risk return models.

I'll generally only go in for a few bucks if a group frm work plays, expecting my money to disapear but doing it as a team/morale exercise.  Plus I know two different people who have won big at work and the people who passed on joining were miserable when everyone else quit.

Yeah if I kept working.. It wouldn't last only as long as it took for something at work to suck. Then I'd just quit and drive my ferrari home to my mansion

If the pot is larger than the odds of winning I will play for a couple of bucks.

Lump sum is ~$216M, odds 1:259M.  That's almost 1:1.  When it exceeds 1:1, it really does make sense to try.

A little better than the chances of getting this guy's job:

I picked up 5. I figure my chance of winning is as good as anyone else that plays, and better than those that don't.

Actually, the math favors a single bet right now. It's the "pot odds" calculation. So, get off your fucking high horse.

I would guess it's because
1) more states are joining the lotto
2) they want the pots to get higher
Link Posted: 12/13/2013 9:01:31 AM EDT
picked up 5 quick picks last night down the road in Illinois, and will probably buy 10$ worth in WI today

For the price of a ticket it's pretty cheap entertainment compared to going to a movie or similar.

I think it's fun to buy one so you can technically daydream of the possibility a few times beforehand, but when people buy 20, 30, or more, I think that's getting compulsive.

More the 2nd than anything...they want higher pots more often so more people play more often.

Pots get higher, quicker, with more numbers obviously...
