Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius.........oh, sorry, got a little carried away.

We picked up our new pup Maximus on Sat.   Here are a few pictures.   He's from german blood lines, and AKC registered, although I couldn't give a shit about the AKC thing.    His dad looked just like my Gus, who died last month.  His mom is a very pretty Sable.

We think he's pretty awesome so far.
11 weeks 14lbs

New pics 11/29  4months 36lbs

Ok, better camera today, same crappy photographer.
Took these yesterday.   I'm surprised at how dark his coat is getting on his back.   Seems like he's changing every day.

Love this one, he's defending his turf against the plastic Jesus next door.  Nothing says "Christmas" like a plastic Nativity scene full of 1/4 size plastic people.

UPDATE 1/18
Ok, here are the new pictures.  Thanks for the gentle push, and reminder.

He's about 6 months old now.  I haven't weighted him lately, but I'd guess he's about 50-55lbs.  He only attacked the camera once during our little shoot today at lunch.

Update 2/8.
thought I'd update this, before being prodded this time.   little sun today....it was nice, snow on the way tomorrow...

Little over 6 months now, 57lbs.

UPDATE 4/10

It's been two months now.   He's now 8 and 1/2 months old.   He's bigger, stubborn, and quite a character.   He had a little problem a month and a half ago, with a partial fracture of the back of his front knee(growth plate).   He was on limited exercise and limited access to the yard for a few weeks.   It wasn't much fun, as i was really worried, but the vet said he will make a full recovery.   She said his X-rays show his front knees both look good, but he has more growing left.   She felt he was growing so fast, and he did something to his knee for it to fracture the way it did.

I'm not sure what  he weights right now.  Probably around 65lbs.   I also haven't taken many pictures lately.    My oldest has been on me about that too.

I took these at lunch today with my phone.
Concentrating on the ball......

About taking my hand off with the ball

On one of our walks.

10 months, 68lbs.

One year old today....  HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX!

He still has 7 litter mates that need homes.   Price was real decent, and the blood lines are impressive(straight backs, normal size-not AKC-Americanized).   I can IM folks the contact info if you are interested.  My wife and I were really impressed with the breeder.

I really enjoy our GSD, we have 4 dogs here, and she is the smartest.
She was a rescue. They can be pretty needy so be forewarned. she constantly whines for attention and is jealous of the other dogs sometimes.

He will do ANYTHING for a treat.   He sits on command already, and will "Kennel".     That's about it; oh, he will "shake" too, but only  if you have a treat he can smell.

His guardian instinct is very strong.   He didn't notice( he was very tired/scared) the 3D Coyote archery target next to the kennel, the first day.  Yesterday, it's the first thing he saw.  It was too funny watching him put on a little show, and scold that target.  He slowly got close enough to find out it wasn't real.

We talked to the breeder about what his temperment was before picking him out.   He is the cuddler, follower; just like my Gus
He is content to sit next to you on the floor until it is time to play.   He loves chasing the ball.   He doesn't like leaving the yard to go on walks yet.   He just wants to stay there.

Nice Dag.

My buddy has a GSD he got from some very good German lines form a local breeder.  They had a contract to have him fixed.  Hes turned out to be a genetic specimen and could probably easily win shows.  The breeder kennels him occasionally for my buddy when they travel and cries every time he realizes he cant breed him.

Love GSD's. Had a sable GSD named Toby before. Miss him everyday.

Schatzi wants to play though, she is a pussy so Maximus will end up winning.

That was one thing I didn't want to have to do.   Our Gus was a rescue, that was clipped by the pound before we got him.  I had people wanting him as a sire all the freaking time.  It was crazy, and made me sad every time they asked.   I had people pull me over on the street, while I was running him with my bike.

Max will remain intact.

There were some nice almost completely black, german lines, pups in MO.   Breeder also had no Americanized traits in her dogs.  We just didn't want to deal with the cross country  thing.    She was a real nice gal to talk to, and I respected her opinion of the breed.   The pups were really cute.  Mom was completely black.

He's a charachter.  He's got a lot of spirit.

The bad thing is getting up with him in the middle of the night....it's just like haveing a new baby again, and that sucks.  He did sleep through the night last night.   I had to lay next to him till he went to sleep, he's not used to having to sleep alone.

all GSD pups are trouble.

Question: how do you teach a pup not to bark at other dogs?
