Yesterday's track and computer predictions had it turning north a few days away from the US but as usual they're wrong again.

Always said the tropics don't get going till the last two weeks of August and the first two weeks of September.
Were just warming up.

These are the ones that worry me the most - long journey and then into warm water as it nears the US, lots of room to get ugly.

I might be wrong, but I think the storms that form from the waves off Cape Verde are less severe on average than the ones that form in the Caribbean.  Hurricane Andrew is a counterexample, but the point is one regarding averages and not outliers.

And I'm wrong.

There are definitely some nasty ones that pop up in the Caribbean and get large/strong fast, but the long path gives them way too much time to organize and strengthen. Luckily many get pushed up into the Atlantic or torn apart by other storm systems, but the ones that make it through have everything in their favor.

This one is moving fast and over cooler water according to Discussion. We'll wait until Monday to assess further.

She's called Dorian.

Another much bigger one behind her.
Looks like Africa is ready to spit a few out towards the West.

This is a pretty good site
