WTF is so great about getting your ass shot down, getting captured, and then having someone whip your ass daily for years? POWs ain't nothing new and damn sure isn't heroic. Victim, yes. Hero, no. Read about Admiral Stockdale's POW experience. He's a hero:

"Prisoner of war
On a mission over North Vietnam on September 9, 1965, Stockdale ejected from his A-4E Skyhawk, which had been disabled from anti-aircraft fire. Stockdale parachuted into a small village, where he was severely beaten and taken into custody.

He was held as a prisoner of war in the Hoa Lo prison for the next seven years. Locked in leg irons in a bath stall, he was routinely tortured and beaten. When told by his captors that he was to be paraded in public, Stockdale slit his scalp with a razor to purposely disfigure himself so that his captors could not use him as propaganda. When they covered his head with a hat, Stockdale beat himself with a stool until his face was swollen beyond recognition. He told them in no uncertain terms that they would never use him. When Stockdale heard that other prisoners were dying under the torture, he slit his wrists and told them that he preferred death to submission.

Admiral Stockdale's heroic actions in no way cast doubt on or discredit to John McCain.  Any American who was shot down and became a POW is a hero in my opinion.  What have you done in your life or endured for your country that approaches what John McCain did?

This is not to say that I agree with his politics, but the man is certainly an American hero.

OP is wrong.  No matter how you feel about his politics, he still gave his all to his country (short of death).  To say anything less is simply wrong and ignorant.

John McCain is an American Hero.

I may not want to vote for him, but to me it doesn't matter whether he was in combat, sitting at a desk, flying a plane, etc... He served his country and did time behind enemy lines as a POW so I could grow up a safe kid.

That makes him a hero to me.

mccain IS a war hero, but it drives me absolutely nuts that he gets a pass on EVERYTHING because he was a POW at one point in his life. i can respect the hardships he was forced to endure, but i don't see how that gives him a blank check to fu*k over america with piles of bad legislation.

You slimey fucking piece of shit. You are the first person I ever wanted to reach through the computer screen and throttle. You are the epitome of an armchair commando. YOu have no reverence for one of the greatest sacrifices someone ever made for your sorry disgusting waste of oxygen thief ass.

I have never wanted to lay hands on someone as much as I want to lay hands on you right this fucking second. I dont like anything about John McCain, but I respect the fuck out of him, and respect what he went through int he Hanoi Hilton. You need some respect beat into you fuckhead, you really crossed a major line here.

Spoken like someone who has lived a comfortable life without any real hardship or risk to his life, thanks to people like McCain.

I can't stand him politically. But he sacrificed mightily for this country. Just being a Navy fighter pilot in peacetime is extremely dangerous. During the Vietnam War ? forget it. He is a hero.

He had a plane blown up under him by a loose rocket and still got himself into the air again to get shot down by the enemy. What have you done lately ?

I sure don't want to vote for him, but don't denigrate his service.
