Yeah me too.

PLUS the M-F'ing STATE of TENNESSEE rejected my initial claim last month....(first claim EVER in my entire life and the company had already put in writing that they weren't contesting unemployment claims).

And then the fucking state office and won't even answer the damned phone.

Instead it goes straight to voicemail with the message to leave your name and Social Security Number on the answering machine................are you people fucking nuts?

Damn, it's only $275/week and the company has already PAID it.

Jiminy Christmas it's a damned good thing I'm not broke because I'd have someone's ass on a pike.

most of those states raised the amounts recently. NY has been at $405 for more than 10 years...

Yeah, and neither NY or CA are highlighted.

What's more expensive than say, San Francisco or NYC?

Alright RI, we're number 1. Way to go.

We also have one of the highest % of unemployed. COL, individual income and corporate tax rates are among the worst in the country. Good luck trying to get small businesses here to generate jobs.

A small deduction is taken out and part is payed by the employer; it's just like payroll taxes.
I've been paying for unemployment since I was 15, which is why I didn't really shed a tear when I had to collect it for a while

Florida – $275

Woot!
Link Posted: 1/31/2012 10:42:47 AM EDT
That is per week...right? So:

Unemployment in RI is $35k/yr. And there's a max of 2y you can ride unemployment. Federal minimum wage is $7.25/hr, or $290/wk, $15k/yr.

Why the fuck would I want to work a minimum wage job, or even a double minimum wage job, if I could get more money sitting on my ass doing nothing for 2y?

That's MAX unemployment. You won't qualify for that amount, working a minimum wage job.

I qualify for max. Actually based on the calculation I qualify for max at about 1/2 my current salary.

What I'm saying is that if the people collecting max actually had the opportunity to take a job such as a walmart bagger, or janitor, etc; why would they? They'd be much better off sitting at home playing with their penis than being productive.

I have two friends taking in $450-500. One is actively seeking a job (car sales, but he used to be management) and is having difficulty bringing himself to accept the one offer he has for sales since it is such a downgrade.

The other friend is a vicious drunk with a college degree but nothing but experience bartending at age 28. He can barely work an iPod, nevertheless have "computer skills." He is actively ignoring job offers to bartend.

The latter is typical, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm on a business trip and I'm going to rack up an extra $1800 this month. I bought him a Coors T-Shirt from the brewery.

<–––– RI employer

As an employer, we pay 3.29% of each employee's gross pay each week in Unemployment Insurance (ceiling of $19,600) and another 0.51% into the Job Development Fund (same ceiling). The employee pays nothing towards either of those, but does pay 1.2% of their gross pay each week to Temporary Disability Insurance (TDI - ceiling of $60,000).

Here's what the taxes look like on a part time employee's recent paycheck:

Gross: $367.19

Employee:

Federal Income Tax: $41.00
Social Security: $15.42
Medicare: $5.33
RI Income Tax: $13.77
RI TDI: $4.41

Total Employee: $79.93 (21.77% of gross earnings)

Employer:

Social Security: $22.76
Medicare: $5.33
Federal Unemployment: $2.20
RI Unemployment: $12.08
RI JDF: $1.88

Total Employer: $44.25 (12.05% of gross earnings)

So on that gross of $367.19, a total of $124.18 in taxes are generated. "The Beast" just keeps right on feeding

The table is 3 years old. WV max is now $424/wk.

ETA: Oh, then it says the table is from 1/1/2011. Still out of date for WV.

Holy shit.

Terrifying.

The employee actually cost $367.19+$44.25 = $411.44 and note how so many payroll taxes are a fixed percentage on every dollar?

Excluding Federal and State Income tax, the payroll deductions (none of which the uber-rich pay) total $69.41.

I make that almost 17% of pay even before any "income" taxes are paid.

Imagine if everyone got a 17% increase in pay, didn't have to pay any taxes on it, but in exchange were told: "Go buy your own insurance and take care of your own retirement baseline".

(In Before the Romney Cock Gobblers defend 15% LTCG, Carried Interest, and Dividend rates)

Someone tell me this:

If I work for myself (I am salaried by my LLC) and I go out of business orr hit a dead spot in work and have to stop paying myself a salary, can I draw UI?

Not that I'll get rich in MS at $235 per week, but can I draw at all?
