McALLEN — An 18-yearold Massachusetts man who described himself as of Iranian descent was arrested early Wednesday morning with seven handguns, several boxes of ammunition and a bulletproof vest taken from a local pawn shop.

A McAllen police officer was dispatched to Danny’s Pawn Shop on 300 S. Broadway Street in McAllen after an alarm at the store was set off at 2 a.m. when a window the front of the store was broken. When the officer arrived, he found a man later identified as Atbin Hoshang Forgham walking away from the store carrying what appeared to be a heavy travel bag in his right hand and a bulletproof vest in his left.

The officer drew his weapon and told Forgham to drop the bags and get down on the pavement. When the officer looked in the bag, he saw that it contained handguns and several boxes of ammunition. Police also found a switchblade knife in Forgham’s front pocket.

"There are a couple of elements in this theft that immediately raised some flags," McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said. "We spent a heavy part of the morning trying to figure these things out."

Forgham had been in the Rio Grande Valley for only a couple of days, Rodriguez said. He told investigators he is of Iranian descent and that he has an address in Canton, Mass. Rodriguez said police do not know why he was in the Rio Grande Valley.

Rodriguez also said that Forgham had "a substantial amount of money" in his possession, although they would not disclose the exact amount.

Workers at the pawn shop told police that Forgham had been in the store at least three times before Wednesday’s break-in and arms theft, sometimes looking around for hours at a time. Daniel Gallego, the store’s owner, told police he had asked him to leave the store one time after he saw Forgham trying to take a pistol belt. The store’s owner gave him $20, thinking that he was homeless, police said.

Forgham appeared before McAllen Municipal Judge Kathleen Henley on Wednesday afternoon and was charged with unlawfully carrying a prohibited weapon and burglary of a building. His combined bond was set at $550,000.

McAllen police contacted the Joint Terrorism Task Force for its input in the case. However, there is no reason to suspect at this time that Forgham is a terrorist or has any ties to terrorism, Rodriguez said.

"None of our fears right now have established that it’s anything other than a burglary," Rodriguez said. "However, the investigation is very young still and we are still putting it together."

Rodriguez said investigators also are trying to figure out why Forgham was even in McAllen.

"That’s what we know at this point," Rodriguez said. "He had a substantial amount of money, he’s from the Boston area, and everything else is unexplained."

Weird. Canton is not far from where I live.

If all that he went to Texas for was to steal guns, he could have gone to states closer to Mass. And, if he had so much money, why didn't he just buy the guns? It will be interesting to see what else is learned.

(Sarcasm on ) Doesn't this idiot know that after the AWB dies this weekend, he would have been able to get full auto Uzi's and Ak's anywhere for next to no money. They will be flooding the streets. Shop keepers will be sweeping them away so that customers can enter their stores."(Sarcasm off)

I just did a yahoo search. There is a mosque in Mcallen. Not sure of one in Canton. I wonder if he was staying at or near it?

Duh, even a dimwit can figure this one out.

The guy obviously came down to meet ARAB TERRORISTS coming in over the southern border, and supply them with the cash and guns.

Note to FBI, watch the mosque and their leadership in McAllen.

Note to police, don't let this creep walk just yet.

Note to ATF, a gun store robbery, you want to enforce the gun laws? Here's your chance.

Rodriguez, get a clue.

No, idiot, he's a freaking 18 year old with a substantial amount of money, he’s from the Boston area, he went to a state where firearms are more readily available and HE'S AN IRANIAN.

And they probably would have let him on a flight unchallenged while body-cavity seraching the 80 year old grandma in line behind him. Dammit, this PC denial is gonna get us all killed one of these days.

Kerry supporter. Kerry campaign sent him with $$$ from Taxachussetts down to Texas to steal some guns and go on a spree. Thus Kerry can blame Bush for a spree right after the AWB expires. Why else would this guy need a bulletproof vest? Yet another piece of proof that the DNC is working with Al Queda.
