I was at work yesterday afternoon, about to leave, when a girl just coming on for the night shift asked me to stay and work for her.  She said she just 'didn't feel like working'.

Not a big deal, but I had plans and didn't want to cover for her.  However, she refused to drop it, and followed me around asking me at least ten times.  After the second time, I had already decided I wouldn't do it no matter what, just because she was bugging me about it.

Finally, just before I left for the day, she shouted "See if I ever do anything for YOU again!"

This morning at work she came up and laughed at me, because I had to stay longer than I had hoped to cover for someone who didn't come in on time.  Apparently we are enemies now, or something.

What I want to know is, how is any of this my fault?  She is too lazy to work, but since I won't drop my Saturday night plans to work eight hours for her, I am a bad guy?  Not to mention that there were 40 other people there yesterday, and none of them worked for her either.

This BS with blaming other people for your problems/irresponsibility has got to stop.  She wants me to feel guilty about not bending over backwards to accomodate her, and that attitude is driving me crazy.

You guys know anybody like this?

Something like that happened with me.  A coworker asked me to take her her shift, because she just didn't feel like it.  I had no problem and could use the extra hours, so no sweat.

A couple weeks later, I was sick as a dog with a bad cold, sore throat, and our job was taking tourists on a guided tour.  I had to speak in public for about four hours with a painful frog in my throat.  So I figured my co-worker could cover for me, since I did her a favor.

Nope.  She couldn't be arsed after I helped her out.  Cunt.   So dont feel bad.

I have a co-worker that forced me to be on call while I was on my vacation last year.  Not very nice and definitely not playing well with others.  This year, he had to have someone (I decided to do it) cover his call because he had to be best man in a wedding.  After I worked it out with the boss, I told him I'd pull his on call and he didn't even bother to thank me.  Again, not playing well with others.  Some people.  Sheesh.

It's the same mentality that thinks that somehow by just having their feet on our soil they are intitled to being taken care of to thier satisfation. No personal responsibility, no accountability, no worries...
And at no expense to them.
Enjoy paying fellows.

You're not in the wrong in any way... however...

How did you approach it when you replied to her first request?  Did you just say, "Naw, can't do it."

I find it best to act like you're sympathetic and would love to but you just can't... "Ohhhh, I'm so sorry, I'd love to cause I really need the hours, but I've got plans that I can't break."

If she still bugged you after something like that, then she's just a b*tch.

I am always very accomodating to my employees whenever they want to come in late, or leave early, or whatever. It's just a job; it's not prison, I figure. They're adults, generally speaking, and I trust them to be responsible in doing me right with their time when they need to tend to personal matters and so forth. But whenever I ask one of the guys to stay a little late to help out, or, God forbid, to come in on Saturday, it's like I'm asking for one of their kidneys or something. Suddenly their time becomes the most precious thing on earth.

Next time offer to cover for her (she will ask again) & then we she doesn't show or leaves early, deny all & make counter-accusations. Payback is a MF.    [}:D]

Yeah, I wish.  She IS a superfox, but will turn on you in a second (as I have demonstrated).  A couple of years ago, she and her hottie friend got into a fistfight in the middle of the restaurant in front of customers, and - I was younger and far stoopider then - I jumped in the middle of it to try and separate them.

While it was sort of hot, I got a set of nails across the cheek from this girl while she was trying (and succeeding) to rip the other one's hair out.

Come to think of it, a donkeypunch would be in order, or even a Tony Danza perhaps.

You gotta do what Troy said.  She's trying to control you.  Let her know who's boss.  Tell her she's a lazy bitch and you're not going to waste your time with her.  She'll come crawling back and you'll be in her panties in no time.

Guess you had to learn the hard way, never ever get in the middle of a catfight. Women fight dirty man. Sorry to hear you got scratched. Fingernail scratches are very dirty and become infected easily. As was stated before, she is a narcissistic bitch that is used to getting what ever she wants because of looks. Reality is tough for bitches like that. They don't cope well. The thing is, it's HER problem, not yours. Don't give her the power to make it your problem. Good luck.

I have helped out my fellow emplyees more times then I can remember by staying late or taking their shifts for them. I did it all of the time and without making them acknoledge that they owed me one or anything like that. A few I even had helped out by doing is 5-10 times. Not one of them was ever there for me if I wanted a favor. In all of my years of working I only needed someone to help me out a couple of times and I got no help from any of the people I had helped before. So after one of them not helping me by staying to work for me from 6-9pm I cut everybody off, no more nice guy for anybody. People just think that others are there for their own benifit.

I'll do it, I need the post count.

The best thing to do is just be polite to her, don't do her any favors, but be polite. People who act like asses want you to fight back. Not giving thenm the satisfaction drives them nuts.

I know a bunch.  At one place I worked, a girl (16) got pregnant.  I overheard her trying to convince the boss to have me work 50% of her shift because "he's a guy and it's not like HE'S pregnant or anything!"

I walked in and informed her that poor choices on her side did not, would not, and never would constitute an emergency on my part.  I also informed them that I was available to help extra with future notice but that simply scheduling me a 150% work increase without asking first wasn't acceptable.

She exploded and accused me of being a racist.

Fuck 'em, man.  Ignore her.

Dont just ignore her, that is a huge mistake.
Confront her right now. Its her responsibility , not yours, to work her shifts.
Tell her so, right now.
If you dont correct this it will get worse.

I disagree.  A woman as described would not leave him alone, but make it a personal goal to go out of her way to make him miserable.  And it would never stop.

It would also show a serious lack of character on his part.
