Here are a few pics we took while testing muzzle brakes and post sample m16's over the weekend. These are just for fun, when we get a faster camera, we will post a serious evaluation of a number of brakes and flash suppressors.

That is a 7.5" barrel in the top picture. Do not try this at home :-). We are a Title 2 manufacturer.

You metioned 'muzzle brakes'. I am assuming then that these are for post ban rifles?

Do your birdcage style muzzlebrakes also diminish the amount of seen flash?

notice in the pic on top its almost dark in the bottom pic its very light come on guys lets be fare not a flame or anything how bout you do them all at nite so its easyer to see??? just a suggestion

Dude......you guys are genuises....that top sub-carbine is perfect for Spec-Ops CQB......if the enemy is that close and your not hitting them then you can always rely on the flash burns! [pyro]

Ditto. Unless they're compared under duplicate lighting conditions, using the same film, exposure rate, and camera angle, the comparison is meaningless and invalid. But even that's not enough. If you're taking stills, you need a highspeed camera and the film must be exposed at exactly the same instant following ignition for all of the brakes. Since this is way too much to ask, you should use a video camera and post the images as an AVI or MPEG. That way we can determine the average amount of flash over a specific number of rounds.

As I said these photo's were just for fun. We were not comparing the flash between the two brakes. We will have our new camera next week and we will start to give you a comparison of just about all of the brakes and flash hiders including the Phantom versus the Vortex. If theres a flash hider or brake you would like to see tested at full auto let us know and we will try and test it for you and post the photo's. We will be testing them with a 14-1/2" M4 barrel. As the acting photographer who took the above pics, I can tell you that it is damned hard to capture muzzle flash on a  digital still camera, even on a 30rd burst. You would not believe how many rounds we 'wasted' :-) in this process. Next time, we plan to try a camera which takes multiple frames, one every half second, I believe. Hopefully, from that, we can get some realistic comparisons.

I am considering building a test rig, which would securely hold 2 M16's side by side, with a single trigger activator.This might make for more accurate flash evaluations. Anyone have any suggestions?

Here are a few pics we took Sunday, of our muzzle brakes on full auto, including the 3 slot short, 4 slot short, and 4 slot extended. These were shot approx. in the middle of a 30 round burst, from a 14.5" M4 barrel. Once again, NO muzzle climb!
These pics are not necessarily representative of actual flash signature, as we are still attempting to perfect our system of capture, and we were shooting military ball with flash retarder in the powder.
We did a side by side comparison of the Vortex flash suppressor and the Phantom. Guess which won? Both. We couldn't tell the difference, in near darkness.
