A Jackson police officer was fired Monday after a witness captured video of what appears to show him kneeing a handcuffed suspect.
Witnesses said the incident happened Saturday on Cooper Road in Jackson. Police officials have not said why the man was being arrested, but said officers were responding to a call about a disturbance. Officer Justin Roberts was fired as a result of an internal affairs investigation. “When I watched (the video), the conduct of the officer was certainly not in line with what we train our officers to do,” Vance said. “We don’t condone it, and we felt like, to terminate this officer was in the best interest of the Jackson Police Department. We’ve talked over and over again about the type of service that we want to provide to our citizens and we’re going to do that. Any officer that will behave in the manner that this officer did, will probably meet the same fate. We did not train him to do that. We don’t condone it and we’re not going to put up with it.” View Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDgP61xyW9A Failed To Load Title |

Not what the firing was for--- not a knee--- the local 6:00 news had CLEAR video of the officer hitting the perp in the face, with a fist. The ''victim'' was cuffed, pushed against the red wall, then slugged pretty good. [ give the officer a raise, I say ]

Kind of looks like he was resisting a hard to tell. Hitting a cuffed suspect is a big no no in my AO. Cost 3 deputies their jobs and one got criminal charges last year for a backhand slap.

Lol, Jackson. Fucks not really given, Perp probably deserved it, wonder what made the cop snap?

Who would have thought punching a cuffed guy in the face was wrong? Gotta serve and protect whatever it takes. Amirite?

There have been at least 3 or 4 in the news over the 2 months that were fired for hitting someone in cuffs. View Quote My sheriff fired the other two for not turning the hitter in...bet you won't see that happen often. It was all caught on that damned video tape that seems to be everywhere nowadays. |

Lol Jackson. The local BLM judge would have released the prep in 24 hours either way. Now he gets a check to go with his freedom. The whole damn city is Indian country no matter what color the officer is.

I seen it!! I seen it!! OMG!!!
For that they testify in court |

Did the other 2 cops who witnessed it and did nothing get fired as well?

Story seems to be that the individual getting hit was having his car repossessed and called the police himself thinking they would stop the repo. When JPD rolled up and informed him that was not going to be the case he started behaving poorly.

Really hope there is video of the whole thing from what I am hearing. Something along the lines of the guy getting his car repo'd jumped on the tow truck, entered his former vehicle, and attempted to drive his car off of the tow truck. I really want there to be video of the whole thing.

Is this the whole "community policing" thing I've been hearing about? That communities of color want police to look like them?
|
|
In all seriousness, The perp is probably the cop's cousin of some sort, or known/kin to him somehow or another.

Looks like he was serving and protecting the shit out of that guy.

While that portion of the video certainly looks bad I would like to see or hear of the context leading up to it.

yeah, uh, fist strikes to the face like that wasn't exactly in the arrest control classes I had to take.
Using force to place a resisting subject against a fixed object to gain control of said subject, yeah. |
|
the other officers didn't seem as concerned about the perp as the one who was trying to punch him in the face.
doesn't seem like a good punch to me. |

Amateur hour. Suspects are supposed to "fall" in that blind spot near the sally port.

I want to know what the handcuffed guy said to the cop. I want make sure I never say it.

According to some in GD, you cant take him to the ground either. Unfortunate for the officer. View Quote |
