I just bought 2 cases of MRE's to store........Am I getting old....???? I think I am turning into my Grand Father... I always remember my mother talking about  the Great Depression her father went through... and until the day he died I always remember him stocking  food and dry goods in his basement.... He always said he would not do with out again......Paranoid   or being  Realistic

So where do you buy these at??  I've never been much into the survival thing but watching this shit in the gulf coast has really got me thinking I need to have some plans.  I don't really need to worry about hurricanes or quakes here in NM but I'm thinking at the very least you should be prepared for several weeks of no power or gas.

Well its off to the survival forum at some point today.

One weeks supply is not enough.  You must be able to survive at least a month or 2. Just take a look at NOLA. Enough said.

Pappy1: MREs are pretty expensive, I would consider canned goods from the local supermarket. Much, much cheaper for essentially the samething. Personally for me, I would stock 1-2weeks of MREs and the rest in canned and shelf-stable foods and supplies from the local supermarket.

I agree wholeheartedly- but a week is a good starting point and you can build from there. I have much more than that now and plan on adding more when I get the opportunity.

I would have one month at a minimum. Pappy try the survival forum, great ideas how not to rely on the gooberment to house, feed, and shelter. The hurricane should be a wake up call. A person/family should have emergency supplies because emergency persomal cannot even get to people who need help now.

Aweek's worth of portable foods (like MRE) and at least a month's worth of other food (canned, flour&beans, etc).

And all of the incidentals, of course.

MRE's have their place, if you want real food that is convenient to prepare, I suggest Mountain House Freeze-Dried food in #10 cans. We have bulk group buys on MH products every so-often in the Survival Forum.

The shit is WAYYYYY better than MRE's, and lasts for 35 years++.

Yep you won't need to store food because you'll be the first person shot.  Dead looters don't need food.

come....come to the survival forum my child.
you shall learn much there.
MREs are not cost efficent - you need wheat, beans, and oats stored in food grade buckets.
