That was a pretty good one.

I don't think it quite compares with Geoffrey Bodine's Craftsman's Truck wreck a few years ago though.

Then again, Geoff didn't just get out and walk away either.

On that one where it says "Fatal Crash" and the car just sits there and burns... and burns... and burns.  That was sad as hell.

I kept yelling at the video "Someone get there and put the goddamn fire out!!!"  I hope he was unconcious and didn't just sit there and burn to death.

Did anyone see debris fly into the crowd at the Daytona 500?  I think it was one of the last crashes.

Going to races is dangerous.  At I-30 speedway, a quarter mile dirt track here in Little Rock at least one person a race night went to the ER with eye damage from clay chunks being thrown up into the stands.

Usually not, but people get so riled up, it's insane.  College or pro football game=at least one stress induced heart attack

+1  I do track days with my car, and am in the process of building a club racer with a friend of mine, and that part of the video made me sick to my stomach.  I can't believe it burned like that though, the fuel cell must have been ripped to bits.  Some racing club racing doesn't even require one, just the stock tank!  Our racer will have a high-quality fuel cell located in the trunk.  Suit-wise I use a SFI 3-2A/5 rated suit, which is supposedly good for 9.5 seconds of 2nd degree burn protection from a toasty gasoline fire.  Won't do much in that situation though, except maybe keep you from burning long enough that the fumes will get you first.

I saw that.  Kurt Busch's rear decklid went into the stands.  Didnt hear anything about it after that, and it wasnt even mentioned on TV, so I assume all is well.

A few years ago Ernie Irvan's hood went into the stands in the 500.  I think it broke someone's leg and beat a few other people up too.  It was the reason NASCAR mandated that all hoods be tethered to the frame.  I dont know why they dont tether deck lids as well.

I used to go to the drags about every weekend. One time a blower exploded and threw pieces of shrapnel into the crowd. Paramedics were on hand and AFAIK nobody got seriously hurt.

At a dirt oval here in Central Ohio a flag-man got killed when a car went airborne on a crash, took him right off his perch....25' in the air.

I was at the Indy race when the wheel got launched into the stands, '86 IIRC, and saw it happen. The tire ALMOST cleared the entire stands, but hit a guy right on the head at the top row, and he fell dead on the spot. Tragic.

WOW, some of those wrecks were really really bad. I heard that the guy that was burning survived the crash but the guy he hit right before his car exploded died.
