Hey all. It came time to buy an AR-15 for me. I did a ton of research. I did a bunch of hands-on with rifles around $1000, and I decided on the Mossberg MMR. Unlike most (all?) rifles in its price point, it doesn't have a polymer lower. It has a free-floating barrel, a sick factory handguard/quad rail, and detachable front and rear BUIS. It's a nice solid metal rifle that feels like it means business, and oh, I assure you, it does.
In all categories, I find this to be absolutely perfect. It doesn't have a forward assist, but, uh... if a rifle is precision-built, it shouldn't need one. And yes, I know, Mossberg is primarily a shotgun company. They nailed it with the MMR, however. My roommate has a S&W M&P and it's nowhere near the rifle my MMR is. The recoil on the MMR seems slightly "kickier" than other AR/M4s that I've shot, and I like it. The rifle is remarkably accurate, really solid feeling, and very well built. Not a lot of people even know they exist, and it's a shame. People are out there buying complete POSes like Bushmasters and DPMSs (sorry if you own one, my opinion, not necessarily yours), and for that same money, or even less, someone could bag an MMR. I love mine so much that I managed to find another one for sale and IMMEDIATELY got on the phone and let one of my best friends know, and within an hour he bought it. The Truth About Guns did a great review on the rifle. That really led me to buy it. His feedback about the rifle was that he didn't like the grip or trigger. Frankly, neither bother me. For me, the rifle is beyond perfect. There was a Windham Weaponry review where the reviewer flat out said "buy the MMR instead". When he reviewed the MMR, he made specific mention of the accuracy of the rifle. I second it. With a $50 Amazon scope and cheapo PMC X-Tac 5.56, I ruined the bull of target after target after target from a few hundred yards. So... buy one. Some purist may swear by a Colt and only a Colt, or this brand, or that brand... Frankly, I'd be shocked if anyone disliked this rifle. Hope this helps anyone that may be considering it. Put that Carbon 15 down and get an MMR, man!!! |
|
Prepare to be shocked, then.
ETA: Frankly, I'd be shocked if anyone disliked this rifle.

That says it all. end thread |

Glad you like your MMR but, I took a quick look at the specs on Mossberg's website and to me, it looks on par with the BM, DPMS, and other commerical grade AR's you're bashing..What are the exact build specs for the MMR? i.e, Barrel steel, BCG, etc?

4140 non chrome lined barrel, no forward assist or ejection port door. A budget rifle that cuts corners more than Bushmaster. Whoever recommended this over a Windham hill either got a free Mossberg or is an idiot

Awesome way to start here brother. How long have you worked for them? Beats my job.
|

Welcome to the site. If you think that gun is all that, then clearly you have no experience with the AR platform.
Since Aimless posted in here I'll let this run, but the pending train wreck, before it gets locked, will be epic. |

Welcome. Congrats on your rifle. I have no plans to rag on you.

A lot of guys think their fat, ugly wife is a perfect 10, it just goes to show that opinions don't necessarily mean much.

They are easily sub MOA of angle with XM193 all day long at 100 meters.

My first AR was a DPMS purchased over six years ago and it runs like an Int'l. Harvester. No I've never run the gun through a carbine course (it's not what I purchased it for), however it's never had a stoppage where I couldn't shoot it anymore. Maybe you ought have a few more posts under your belt (as well as AR-15 immersion therapy) to understand the materials used in the manufacturing of both commercial and mil. grade ARs. Anyhow, welcome to the ARFCOM...

Mossberg's shotguns f*cking suck balls. Why would you ever want one in a black rifle format?
|

Look, I think we are often too harsh on people posting about their first rifle, but this "It's super, you guys don't know shit" about a decidedly back of the pack rifle sets my teeth on edge. It's a budget rifle with lower end components and features left off to make it cheap. It's a budget playgun for people who aren't worried about having a more serious, reliable rifle with military type components. If that's what someone wants, then there you have it. I think mossberg is generally a good company, I don't think they would just churn out rifles that are no good; but they are making a play rifle. there is nothing wrong with buying a play rifle, just don't try to tell people who know better that it is a Colt.

I kept waiting...and waiting... and waiting... for the punch line from OP... and it never came.
To each their own I guess. As for mossberg products, I do think they are quality (at least the shotguns are). I own a CHEAPO used Coast to Coast (Mossberg made 500 knockoff) and have outshot people in trap/skeet with $2000 over/unders. My dad purchased it for me when I was 12, and have loved and cherished it ever since. Its a great gun have taken many ducks/geese/deer with it, and it continues to deliver. It cost us 135.00 and is super solid. |

Holy #?!+, you mean my Stag and Windham has polymer lowers? I am so heartbroken I must go buy a MMR
|
|
Im still trying to figure out when bushmaster became total trash... I trust my life, the lives of my familys, and anyone else close to a bushmaster and a rock river. I understand that the move to ny was unwanted, but my bushy (windham maine manufacture) is the best rifle i have. And I am not new to this "game" either.

What?
My 15 year old Bushmaster will shove its cock right into your MMrs holster and , and...... O yeah. |

I have many a round thru my bushy with 2 stoppages in 3000 rounds (used and abused usgi mags) My bushmaster M4A3 and my "well fed" 250lbs self will shoot circles around you and your MMR. When I came onboard this site back when, if you posted something like this thread, system lock would have told you "stfu noob, your drunk, go home" |

I wanted a Mossberg... and then my son came home with this WAY COOL airsoft gun with real Magpul gear and everything. I'm so awesome now.

So you are your butt buddy uh uh I mean roommate were playing with each others solid rifles huh. Can't tell if this is a coming out thread or not. Oh btw op why doesn't your daughter fix her teeth and why did you lose your FFL Oh and just because you are shooting at a 300 yrd target at 25 yards doesn't mean it shoots sub moa. Lemme guess it came with a 5 round mag didn't it. |
|
Can we at least get a picture of it? Did it come already camo'd out?
|
|
|
So the general consensus is any rifle under 1k has a polymer lower, right? Oh and I got to have one of those 50$ Amazon scope to help unleash the furry that is the Mossberg MMR. This guy has to be trolling.
