I recently posted regarding a possible problem with Spectra material use in body armor.  In short, it came to my attention that Spectra may have some serious issue regarding thermal weakening.

See this link for the original source of my concerns - http://64.177.53.248/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000753.html

I was obviously very alarmed, and MAD DOG is a knowledgeable and credible individual, with a reputation at Gunsite in AZ.

Recently, Honeywell/Allied Signal has addressed this issues (for the most part) at the following link - http://www.spectrafiber.com/armor/pdfs/Heat-QA-final.pdf

This has closed this issue for me, and I will continue to rely on my issued vest.  I will, however, probably not get another Spectra vest, as the possibility of a contact gunshot defeating the vest was not addressed in the above manufacturer's article.  Also, PACA, who made my vest, has not replies to my inquiries.  And note that Honeywell/Allied Signal still does not warranty Spectra for any of the uses it suggests at its website.

My lesson learned...research before purchase.
