My 1977 M880 3/4 ton Ex-Army truck has full time 4WD. Trasfer case selections show 4HI/4LO and 4LO LOC. The TC is a NP203 (I think). Since the truck is full time 4wd, what does the LOC selection do? There are no linkages from the TC to either of the pumpkins, so its not a diff. lock (how can it be?).

OK, I googled it and found the answer. Apparently the NP203 has the limited slip portion built into it rather than it being in the axles. Lo LOC stops this slip from occuring making the truck behave like a part time 4WD. IOW, don't drive on hard surfaces in LOC positions.
BTW, the NP203 does not take 90W gear oil or ATF. It uses 10W40 oil only.

My first truck was a '79 powerwagon. Same transfer case. People rag on the np203, but I never had a single problem with mine (until the telephone pole adjusted the entire front end).

Had the same transfer case in my '78 Jimmy. Your info is correct.

FWIW, never had any problems with mine. Wasn't the greatest as far as MPG [which is why I had to sell it] but that damn K5 could drive through a house and handled rain/sleet/ice/snow like a champ. Reliable as the sun and easy and cheap to fix. I sure miss it.
