Garand was Chief Civilian Engineer at the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts. Garand invented a semiautomatic .30 caliber rifle, known as the M-1 or "the Garand," which was adopted in 1936 after grueling tests by the Army. It was gas-operated, weighed under 10 pounds, and was loaded by an 8-round clip. It fired more than twice as fast as the Army's previous standard-issue rifle and was praised by Gen. George S. Patton, Jr., as "a magnificent weapon" and "the most deadly rifle in the world." |

Alright I've had this clip since you posted it. I've watched it several times. I cannot for the life of me tell HOW this Garand is being "bump-fired". Can someone explain this to me? I had never even heard of bum-firing until I started hanging out on this board.
How, what, why, etc? Someone help me out. BTW, by admitting I don't even come close to knowing everything in this post, am I thereby kicked out of the beer-drinking, breast-admiring, nut-scratching, remote-wielding club? |

How to "Bump-Fire":
With your rifle at your side, pointed downrange, grasp weapon firmly by the handguards with your left (weak) hand. With your right (strong) hand, stick your trigger finger into the trigger guard, but do NOT pull the trigger. Your trigger finger must be straight and stiff. Curl your other fingers and place them underneath the rear of the gun, to support the gun's weight only. Do not grip the gun at the rear. Now, keeping your right hand held stiffly, wiht your trigger finger extended, PULL the gun forward into your trigger finger with your left hand, maintaining forward pull always. The gun will move forward until the trigger contacts your trigger finger. The gun will fire and recoil will move the gun to the rear. Because you are continuing to apply forward pressure with your left hand, the gun will move forward again, causing the trigger to hit your trigger finger and repeat the cycle. With a little practice, you can empty the magazine in simulated full auto in one continuous string. This is what all those junky "Tac-Triggers" are trying to simulate, but the joke is that they are totally unnecessary, because you can duplicate the effect without them. -Troy |

I do it a bit differently. I use my thumb, stick it through the trigger guard and hook it onto the top of my jeans/shorts/etc. Give it plenty of downward pressure so it's not moving around when the gun is firing. The rest it works the same.

You use your trigger finger? I use my thumb and hook it onto a belt loop or a front pocket.

Bump fire is cool but still think trigger fanning is quicker, more impressive when nobody expects it. (uses weak hand finger to fire)

HANG ON MAN! (to the gun that is)
DVDtracker, the next video you make should be the glock, the shooter is aiming the gun by looking through the video camera. so imagine shooting a glock with the right hand and holding the video camera in the left hand over the right eye and aiming, firing and trying to stay in control of the gun while keeping it on target -- can be tricky, but it looks neat-O. |

I get asked that all the time. I WISH I lived at Big Bear because it's one of my favorite stomping grounds around here and part of the reason I took the handle. I'd move there but it would be a 2 hour drive each way to go to work and back.

I hate to be the safety guy, but the muzzle was clearly skyward, and it's not like he was aiming. Have fun but don't blast the neighbor kids out of the trees. 30-06 flys a long way at 33 degrees of angle, almost 3500 yards as I recall from some darn book,I'll check if I get time.

You can't tell from the video but there's nothing out there but the side of a mountain, and beyond that, more mountains. Angeles Range is high in the foothills at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. I agree with your safety point though on knowing what's beyond your target downrange. |
