Here's a couple of M1 Carbines that my Dad bought through the DCM in the early 60's. He recently gave them to me after 20 years of begging.

-Paratrooper is an all original 1944 Inland
-The standard stock M1 is a Quality Hardware that was arsenal rebuilt.

the only problem with the ibm is it has an underwood stock, the U on the hand grip is the give away. not a real big deal mine is an under wood, and it came with a winny stock. i changed out most of the part to under wood.

what i found was funny was even thou the parts swapped the underwood parts fit better, like the recoil plate (the lug in the stock ) and stock

Beautiful guns, especially the M1A1....what I wouldn't do for one of those!

But, I would think that at some point it went through a re-build, since I don't think it would have originally had the slider rear sight and bayo lug Type III barrel band....I could be wrong, and even if I'm not...who cares!

I'm no expert but I have studied M1s a little bit: Pretty much all M1 carbines have gone thru an arsenal rebuild, hence the mix and match parts. The Type III barrel bands (w/ bayonet lug) are post WW II. The slider sights are WW II vintage. The Para stock gun has the later stamped rear sight and the latter round bolt, while the std. stock carbine has the earlier flat bolt and the earlier milled rear sight.

From what I have read, the slider sights only came issued on very late WWII guns...and your right, it should have a flat top bolt most likely.....

Still, that M1A1 ia worth a mint...they ain't cheap when you can find one!

I haven't shot them since my Dad gave them to me. The last time I shot them was when I was a teenager back in the 60's. We'd just shoot at cans, milk jugs and old refrigerators......stuff like that.

The IBM barrel gun is actually a Quality Hardware reciever. From what I understand, IBM made barrels for Quality Hardware.
