I recently talked to my college roommates gf, he is currently at outside Bagram. He is able to call home often, but it adds up quick. I want to send him some minutes to keep in touch with family. What is the best way to go about it?

Lots of guys used SPAWAR and bought minutes for their VOIP/MWR stations.

I used regular old calling cards that the BX sold and got a hook-flash from the Bragg operator via DSN. Minutes were billed as a call from Fayetteville NC to my home in W-NC. Most of the larger posts and some smaller ones have a morale line that does call transfers for the troops. Just find one that is close to who he needs to call and go through them.

I still have a stack of plain calling cards (for DSN or phone trailers). LMK if anyone or anyone knows anyone that can use them!
