Well since manwhoring is not working for me here in Dallas, I figure I look for another avenue. Don't really wanna go the pizza delivery or McDonalds route, so I figure I ask for your guys opinion. Mainly looking for something P/T maybe 2-4 nites a week. 3-5hrs a nite. Considering tax implications, I would need to make about $7 an hour to make it worth my while, otherwise I would just be breaking even come income tax time. Any ideas? For you DFW folks, if you know anyone hiring for nites and weekends and could use a guy like me, please shoot me an e-mail.

What about being a bouncer?  Can be fun, and you should be able to make that much, but it sucks if you have to wake up early.

Why don't you try to get a part time job as a waiter at a nice restraunt? I have a couple of friends in Dallas that are waiters full time and you can rake in some nice $$$ if you get a job at a good place. Plus, it's a good way to meet some women!

I know that when I go out to some place nice I'll drop a fifty if the service is good.

I couldn't do it, because I don't do well with people constantly complaining, but it's something you could think about.

There have to be hundreds of different jobs at the airport, probably one you might like?  i dont know about there but you can bring in decent money as a club promoter (aka you give flyers to everyone you meet and put them all over with an emphasis on pretty girls cause the more girls the more guys will come and spend money on them.  HTH good luck

Actually LT, you should consider the National Guard.

Minnimum sign up bonus right now is $3000 and you could qualify for up to 5K more.

If you have college hrs/degree your starting rank will be commensurate upon the level you attained.  Higher rank=higher pay.

Sure.....you'll do basic (9-11 wks) and AIT (advanced individ. training) for 3-5 months but after all that you work 1 week-end a month and two weeks a year.

Womenz?

Sure....................there are lots of womenz in the military!

Nice way to secure a beter future for yourself and pull in 2-300 bucks per month extra.

you should consider your own business.  i'm not joking.  there are plenty of opportunities out there without having to fork over lots of cash.  but it takes a lot more work than just putting in the time.

something to think about.

The reason I am looking for another job is that I took a $30K a year pay-cut to come to TX. It was OK, but after being un-employed for 5mos. there is no way I can catch up on my bills unless I get another job that pays well or get a second job. Getting promoted is a zero proposition with this company.

Really gets me cause I moved to TX to satisfy my firearms hobby. Now I can't afford a f'ing thing. In CA I had the extra cash, but could not buy what I wanted.

Well I am still in the Reserves and will start drilling again. I stopped drilling when I left CA and was suppose to attach myself to a unit here in Dallas, I will be calling the Jt Reserve base sometime this week. Even that is not enough. Going active is not the answer. That would mean only making 70% of what I am making now. That would put me more in arears.

Starting my own biz is not the way to go when you're already buried in debt. Plus when I had my Martial Arts school, although I sold the school for a profit, it soured me on running my own biz. All work and no play. And I like to play.

Waitering is a good idea. I'll start looking around in the restaurants here in the area. Done that part way thru H.S. and College. Bouncing might work too, but I have to be at work around 6:30AM

Lordtrader, Ponyboy's idea of waitering is spot on. But, better yet, Bartend. Even if you have no experience, grab a book, and pick up the basics. Most of the time you will be pouring beers and glasses of wine, a vodka and tonic or some other easy drink. When I was in college (20+ years ago) I made a killing, ($50,000 a year) working full time. Part time, you should be able to knock out 25-30k, no prob. You'll meet lotsa girls, but the late hours won't help your day job. Good luck, Dave  [beer]

I can't help you on a pt job, but here's my 2 pesos:

I was a framing carpenter out of high school, and I hated it. No way I was doing that for 20 years! I have always loved car stereos, guitar amps, PAs, recording gear, etc. I went to a 2 yr state vo-tech electronics course and found I was damn good at it. So then I worked my way thru engineering school and got a degree. Yeah it was hard work, and I starved for a few years, but it was worth it (don't forget college chicks!) Now I have a job I love and make damn good money. No man jack can walk in off the street and do my job - no freakin' way, it takes years of training and a degree. When I get up in the morning I like going to work.

The point is this - figure out what you like to do and go do that! I work to live, not live to work. Success to me is making enough money doing what you love to support your standard of living. I was in my 30s before I figured that one out. I wish you the best of luck!

PS UT Austin is full of hot wimmenz and a party town to boot! Hook 'em horns! I might go there for a Master's if my wife will let me! [:D]

RamblinWreck already know what I want to do, and have been doing it for the past 5yrs until I decided it was time to leave CA. My problem now, aside from not liking my current career situation, is that I am in need of cash to get out of the hole. I can definitely find another firm, but it will not be tomorrow. It will more than likely take me back to CA or to NY since that is where my industry is. However, until then bills have piled up. I have made a rash decision in moving and taking a pay cut, but all I can do now is grin and bear it and look for a second job until such time as I can get back on track with my career.

LT: OK, I presumed too much - the bartending/bouncer gig might work if you get into a popular meat-market nightspot (I know a guy that does very well doing that), but the hours will definitely suck. Retail sales of some sort? Boiler room?

Other than that, I'm drawing a blank. Sorry! Good luck, bro.

The BEST second job I have had was at a local gunshop.  I got to handle and talk about guns all night AND get paid!  Plus, I also was able to buy ammo, supplies, and one gun a year at COST!

Paul is right on. Porno webmaster is a nice second income.

I spend about 12-18 hrs/week doing various stuff, shooting pics, editing them, updating site, answering email, blah blah blah and it grosses about $2500/wk. Not exactly back-breaking labor either.

And I'm not even that good at it. I have acquaintances who regularly make > $10k/week. (Gross rev of course, but expenses are relatively low.) Then again, some people just can't put up with the need to constantly churn out pulchritude. :)

Worth a look.

I don't know about Texas, but in L.A. they say a good panhandler can make $200.00+ a day. Work your own hours, own location, no taxes, fresh air, causal clothes, no need to shave or shower before work...

Heck, this sounds so good, I might try it!

Residential treatment centers for drug addicts, troubled yoot, runaways, mental patients, retarded adults, etc. are almost always looking for people. Beyond requiring that you can pass a pretyy basic background check, there isn't much involved in the way of requirements, but a degree is a real plus.  There is a high turnover in these jobs because degreed people typically don't want to make a career out of an $8 to $10 an hour job.  Opportunities to meet broads are good, as lots of freshly graduated young chickies take these jobs while looking for something more permanent.  Other plusses: You usually get to eat with the clients in the dining hall, so that is 1 or 2 free meals a day.  If you have the overnight shift, there really isn't anything to do but make sure they are all in their beds every hour or so. (Get paid to screw around with your laptop or gameboy, basically)  You can usually pick up overtime if you want.  Minuses- Clients, depending on what type of treatment/halfway house/group home you are working can be astonishingly fvcked up and frustrating to deal with.  Supervisors are sometimes bitter and hard to take, usually because they have been there too long.

i too would like to know more on this. sounds like easy cash.
Link Posted: 1/16/2002 2:59:50 PM EDT
[#49]
Personally I don't think it's 'easy cash' per se, but it's not digging ditches either. It's still work, but a different kind of effort is required.

Plus there are all kinds of different ways to do adult websites, and I'm sure you've all seen the pop-up hellholes, links galore stuff, etc. I can't stand that crap and I'd never build a site like that...but lots of people do, so you can bet they're making money. So that's one route you can go.

However the path I chose is to focus on something I liked and understand and could get the Mrs. involved in.
So no graphic nudity, softcore fetish type pics(think Vargas girls cheesecake type stuff), etc. We're pretty pleased with how it all turned out but it is definitely a fair amount of effort on a *constant* basis.

You have to be prepared to do all the work yourself for it to be economical (ie, site design and all updates on a weekly basis, taking photos, doing all correspondence, dealing with password hackers, hosting issues, etc.) The surest way to go broke is paying for other people's expertise, so don't do it.

Generally people pay models anywhere from $75-125/hr. Any 'creative loafing' type newspaper is a good first step if you're doing it yourself. (Many models..particularly strippers...are NOTORIOUSLY flaky and unreliable, so be warned)

You'll probably need dedicated hosting, depending on your bandwidth needs (for reference, anywhere from $300 to $400/month for a 1mbit dedicated server sufficient for a medium sized site or several smaller ones)
Of course tou'll have to figure out how to promote the site and retain members. (Let's face it, there's quite a bit of competition out there! :)

Regarding content...I don't ripoff other people's pics, but if you do you should be prepared to have a good attorney or hope that no-one ever notices or cares (obviously the larger you get, the bigger target you become..$$$). My recommendation is *don't do it*, but that's just me.

You can also buy content from various places, but it's often pretty generic. Use your imagination, I'm sure there's some angle you could go after that would be fun to do.

The only serious drawback is that everything is a credit card transaction...you never touch cash, so you're going to have to come up with a lot of expenses to keep the tax burden down.
(Hey, you're working for yourself now.)

Plus the government doesn't care what your business is, they just want you to send W-2's to every model you've paid over $600 bucks that year, and pay your taxes on time, so buckle down on the bookkeeping. :)

I don't want to make it sound like 'there's nuttin' to it', but at the same time it may be a good fit for you if you like tinkering around with computers, the net and photography.

Certainly I don't know *anyone* who started a site and closed it because they lost money, most do so for personal reasons.

Hope this helped!

LT how about going through the NRA firearms saftey instructor course?I knoow guys around here that charge anywhere from 10 to 15 dollars and hour to teach the course for people to get there carry permits and teach the course a couple hours here and there till the mandated number of hours have been reached. This is something I have thought about. Also if you are someone who can take care of your self in a fight, try to hook up with a bounty hunter who is looking for some help.I helped a guy for a while that would call me and a few other guys for help once he had done the leg work and thought he knew were to find the guy and he might put up a fight.Usually easy money but the wife raised such hell when the dude called I gave it up.
