Well, not brand new, but lightly used.  She wants a BMW 5 series, but I don't want the price, or the hassle of when it goes out of warranty.  She wants a "luxury" car but we want to stay around $35k.  I was pushing her towards a lightly used Infiniti Q50.  Is there anything else I should be looking at?  Anyone with a Q50 have any insight on them?

Thanks as always!!

CPO in any euro brand is what you seek.

Check out Lexus, and the Hyundai Genesis.....  You can get an awesome deal on a used Genesis, and they compare favorably to a 7 series bmw in my opinion..... (well, without the maintenance and expensive transmission shitting)

Lexus IS250/used350, or new fully loaded Subaru Legacy 3.6R. Infiniti is just a junk Nissan in disguise.

Infiniti or Lexus or Acura

Both much smaller than a 5 series, at least in the rear leg room department.

This. Q50 is an amazing car. I have an Infiniti and it has been hassle-free.

We had two Lexus's and just switched over to an Infiniti this year. I like it better. We get a new one every 3 years or so. I dislike Mercedes and BMW they rape you on the maintenance and so much of it has to be done at the dealer. Lexus and Infiniti are are luxury toyotas and nissans and easy to work on.

Not everyday but close enough to keep me in good spirits.

My wife does have a sense of humor....... and she did get a new car well below the budget.

Also gave my daughter a plunger as a gift when she moved out for college.

You're right about the Lexus, however the Subaru Legacy has more rear leg room than the 5 series:
35.3 inches for the BMW compared to 38.1 inches for the Subaru. The Legacy is a very good car for the money.

There are some really nice Lexuses out there.

Q50 is nice, it's even cheaper used.

Acura TLX is a nice bang for the buck with models at low as the high 20's to right over 40k depending on options. My brother in law has a TLX v6 base he bought new for ~30k and my 16 year old niece drives a v6 SH AWD advance model, which has all the bells and whistles like remote start, AWD, navigation, rear cam etc.

If she was looking at the 5 series, the Lexus IS maybe too small but a used GS350 maybe in her price range. I just think Lexus interiors are boring though, but so it BMW's.

I'd skip all the German cars, I've paid too much for regular maintenance on mercedes that I'm glad my Escalade is super cheap to maintain.

I bought my wife a 2015 mkz she loves it roomy for a small car with every feature you could ever want in something that drives.

Get her a 2017 Toyota Avalon hybrid. My wife came off a Lexus and absolutely LOVES her Avalon. She gets 36.5-38.5mpg. Super comfortable with a great ride. You can get her a brand new one at that price.

If you take the time to check it out you would see it is true. The new Cadillacs are GTG also. Competition is a never ending game.

Can't speak for any other Infiniti but my G37x has been 100% trouble free for over 80K miles.  I wouldn't touch a BMW with a ten foot pole unless I had money to burn.

Just get her a Prius Prime.

Take my wife's rx350.  She leased it last year and hates it now.  I don't know why.
Link Posted: 6/22/2017 6:36:05 AM EDT
I just know from my fathers sample of one BMW, BMW and budget should not be used together. I would never want one out of warranty that's for sure.

As a few others have said Lexus is probably one of your best bets.

Personally I think people get too hung up on the logo.

Bought the wife a used Q50 a couple years ago and it's been pretty much trouble-free maintenance wise.  I had one issue with the LED headlight required a replacement but it was covered under the warranty.  I can tell you that the navigation unit is slow and gltichy sometimes which is a common complaint.  Since it's the wife's car I'd recommend looking for a used model with the vq37 (non turbo) engine. They are pretty reliable and this engine is tried and true. I believe the 2016+ has the turbo 4 or 6 cyl  engines that are relatively new which could be a headache.

Wife has had an FX35 since August last year, and I just bought a G37S a month ago. Despite a radiator going in her car and a clutch in mine, still overall satisfied, with few complaints.

Friend of my parents has one, damn nice car for the money. I would also take a good hard look at the Hyundai Genesis line of cars.

That said I have had 4 BMWs in the past and none of them gave me any headaches, my 540i had 276k on it and ran and drove like a new car.

My wife loves her Lexus gs350.  We bought a 2015 f sport with 18k miles for 35k.  I don't know anything about the 5 series BMW, but I'm 6'2" and can ride in the back seat of the Lexus.

We owned a CPO Merc for a while.  MB has a pretty stellar CPO warranty program in my opinion, saved us many thousands of dollars.  That said, as soon as the warranty was up, we traded it in.

We'd definitely consider that route again, the net operating cost wound up around half of what a lease would have been.

Cadenza is nice, starts in the lower 30s

I'd bee looking at a used Lexus.

We bought an older Avalon and it is very comfortable to drive or ride. The 268 hpV-6 is quite peppy and fuel mileage is around 30 mpg on the Interstate. The 6 speed auto is very smooth and can also be shifted manually.

Go look at a loaded Honda Accord.

I was so impressed I bought TWO in the last month. The .9% finance special didnt hurt either.

Quality is every bit as good and mostly better than BMW IMO.

I've been the unfortunate owner of an out of warranty BMW X-5 with the twin turbo V8. Amazing vehicle that was an absolute pile of shit in the realm of all things maintenance related. Spent months in the shop between 55,000 and 80,000 miles for drive axles, oil leaks, coolant leaks, bad coils, fouled plugs, internal engine rattles(cam chain tensioner?),air bags on the suspension, multiple recalls....the list kept going.  Before buying a used Euro car, check into their certified pre owned programs. Some good warranty coverage on those up to 100,000 miles I believe. We ended up with a new 2017 Q7 Audi, and I will say that the Audi dealer in North Houston kicks ass. Never seen vehicle service go so smooth. They come 120 miles to bring the wife a new Audi loaner anytime hers goes in for any service issues. Always delivered back quickly. Audi has some nice stuff out these days. Their prepaid service plan for 50,000 miles extends the warranty to 60,000.

My Q50S AWD Hybrid was a total POS. I dumped it off after 90 days.

Look at a Ford Taurus or Fusion with the titanium package. Also check out VW Passat, Hyundai Azera or Genesis, Kia Cadenza, Toyota Avalon, or Lexus ES350.

If she wants premium German I'd go with Audi.

Toyota Avalon Limited. You should be able to get a new or practically new one in your price range.
