My last TV I bought was a Vizio....worked great for about two years, then started having all kinds of issues. Replaced a board on it...worked great for another 6 months, not the power supply is starting to die on it.

I'm tired of messing with it, and I want to get a new TV.  Is there one brand that is better than the rest as far as quality and reliability.....or are all the brands the same China make junk?

Point me in the right direction.......looking for something around 52".

Thanks!

I just got this one.  https://www.crutchfield.com/p_15855X930D/Sony-XBR-55X930D.html?tp=60890&omnews=2710980

This is the one you want.

The color is great.  The up-conversion is beautiful.

1) Stay away from smart TV's. (They are like a computer with all the issues that come with them)

2) Buy a Samsung

3) ???

Even the most common "best" brands have different lines that differ in quality. Hell, even within the same product line, the panels and such will be sourced from different places. So you will have to look at each on a case-by-case basis.

I don't have cable TV, I just have internet that I stream Netflix and Amazon through..it's nice to be able to listen to Pandora with it also. . Is there a way to make a TV work with my router without having it be a smart TV?   My Vizio is a smart TV...and yes, it's always having issues.

Does any manufacturer even make a non-smart TV bigger than 30" a these days?  Don't recall seeing new TV's that weren't smart TV's.

I'm sticking with Samsung and Sony from now on.
Like you, I've had issues with Vizio.

firestick from Amazon (or Roku, or Apple TV...) as long as you have a hdmi port it will do all and more than smart tvs will do. Firestick is more friendly than the others as far as modifying it (adding third party aps like Kodi)

It will do all you are looking for stock and more for about $40

Get a dumb TV and a Roku/FireTV/AppleTV.
You can always swap them out for the latest and greatest as tech advances (and it will) without having to replace the whole TV.

I have an lg oled and it's amazing.  From what I've seen the new Samsung quantum dot tvs look great as well.

I have a 65" Samsung curved 4K blah blah blah. Not a bad seat in the living room. The picture is amazing. It's a joy to watch especially football games. I'd buy again. As far as the exact model I have no idea. I walked in, chose the one I thought looked the best and loaded that bitch up....

My current TV was one of the first 40" 1080P TVs from Samsung.  It's been a great TV but one of the HDMI ports is acting up.  When it goes, I will be buying another Samsung.

Stay far away from LG unless you like issues.  Sanyo has been good to me.

For picture quality the Samsung are hard to beat.

For reliability Sanyo win by a long shot. I don't own, nor do I plan to own a Sanyo, but I see lots and lots of TV sets. Samsung are not reliable beyond about two or three years. They sell lots of Sanyo sets dirt cheap at places like Walmart, Kmart and the like, the picture quality tends to be OK, not great, not horrible, but they last forever. They sell a lot more Sanyo sets than they do Samsung, I see more broke down fairly new Samsung sets than I do Sanyo, I see lots of Sanyo sets that are pretty old but still working more or less as well as when new.

Are you in TV repair?  Could it be that you don't see as many Sanyos because people are more likely to chuck them than try to get them repaired?  Just a thought.  Cheers!

I must have lucked out.  My LG from 2009 has been flawless.  Of course, that's not what they're putting in stores today.
I'm sure it's going to die this weekend now.

We bought my parents a Visio a couple of years ago, and it's been very good, knock wood.  The sound isn't quite as good as my LG, but it's a pre-LED model, so it's got more room for a larger speaker.  Not sure if that's an issue with all LED TVs or just most of the ones I've seen.

I know a lot of people are fans of Samsung, but I can't say I'm one. My preference would be a Sharp Aquos. I find the picture quality and colors better than Sony or Samsung, just my .02

Anyone ever ordered a TV from Amazon or some online place like Newegg? I'm just wondering if I'm better off to get one at a local big box store instead of ricking it getting rattled around in a delivery truck.....but I guess they get shipped to a big box store, so there's that......

If you buy a Samsung LED TV eventually you will be replacing the mirror chip in it.

I've ordered about 20 through amazon up to 72inches. Not counting anything smaller than 30 inch.
Some come through UPS but eventually they get big enough for a freight company to deliver.

Panasonic would be my #1 choice.

Sony or Samsung equally #2 choice.

Vizio would be about #30 if I had to make a full list.

I'm going to buy a 55" Samsung 8000 series after work today and I'm purposefully buying it from a brick and mortar store so I can return it and instantly get a replacement in the event of dead pixels or excessive light bleeding.

I noticed that my local Best Buy and Walmart stock several Phillips brand TV's......how do those compare to others?  Also...it seems like all of the Vizio TV's I see online have great reviews......did I just get a dud, or are Vizios pretty reliable overall?
