My lovely bride and I went on a Lowe's run this afternoon.
As I'm cruising the parking lot, I see an open space right up front--as in, first spot closest to the doors, across the row from the handicapped spots. Cool. Swing into it, and notice two things--purple lines, and a sign. Immediately parked somewhere else. Definitely not qualified to park there, and happy to let those who are use it. ![]() |

Well now. In a sea of shit, it's nice to see something pleasant for a change. Good for Lowes.
There is hope when there are still good people making decisions
we have one of those spots where i work too. no one ever tries to sneak into it like the normal handicap space right next to it
Lowes also does a 10% discount for active duty military and veterans. I was unaware of this until a couple weeks ago.
I like it.
I hope they used a regular "Handicapped" space for it. There are way too may of those around here . . . and way, way too many healthy drivers with handicapped stickers who park close and hop out and walk easily into stores. |
As great as that is for them to do (two huge thumbs up!)
It won't be long until some land whale complains to the powers that be that she now has to scooter an extra 40 feet to the front door... |

I had my feelings hurt during the Great MEME War, will I qualify.......

so do doctors give out Purple Heart placards like the wheelchair ones they give to fake cripples ?
That's awesome. The veteran parking at HD is occupied by able bodied vets most of the time. I admit I have used the spot as well.
Lowe's is great. They linked my military discount to my Lowe's card, now I can use the automated check our and it gives me the discount. No need to show my ID anymore.

The worst spots are the ones for pregnant women. Make them walk to keep that baby fat off. It's not as if you can't control whether you're pregnant or not.

Pretty sure I saw the exact same sign at a Whole Foods recently.
Damn I hope my local lowes does that.
Other than the promotion points it'd be the only perk I ever got for my enemy marksmanship badge. Hell the PH plates for my Camaro even cost me more than regular plates. Edit: not that I demand any perks-but it would be cool. How about Combat Infantry parking spots? |

The Home Depot Stores around Atlanta have been doing this for a while.

My local Home Depot has 2 handicapped spots and 6 Purple Heart spots. Thought it was kinda cool...

There are still disabled parking spots available as well 4. If they're intention was for non able bodied vets they would have/will change to purple heart parking like Lowe's |

Glad it sad combat wounded , two high school friends i have, never saw combat and are disabled veterans. So the spend there day riding motorcross and water skiing and drawing a check. the one with a bad knee went bungee jumping last year.

One of the local Lowe's stores has this... the other does not. Cool either way.

It's cool.
However, anything done in large-corporation America is done with the bottom line in sight. I doubt this would happen in Berkley. Playing to the local clientele. |

There's a local burgers & beer joint that has one of those signs. Brought a smile to my face the first time I noticed it.

There a few places around here doing that now. Local gun range has a few spots

I want one that is reserved for PTSD veterans who are triggered by fireworks.

View Quote I would never park there because there is no reason I need to. I know if I ever parked there just as I got out of my car a WW2 vet would walk by having parked at the back of the lot. I appreciate the veteran spots but the Purple Heart spots make more sense to me. |
