Look on the front (home) page. There is a article on the sunset which is currently "AK-47s, Uzis and TEC-9s legal again after today " (they have changed the title twice). Next to it is a link called "Explainer" which is an interactive link. I don't know how to directly link it or I would.

Definitely scare tactics in the title, "AK-47s, Uzis and TEC-9s legal again after today." CNN makes no effort to hide the fact that they're ~~candy-ass liberal poo-stabbers~~ biased against guns. The "Explainer" gets most things right, surprisingly. The major mistake I saw was the assertion that full autos have already been banned. I was going to send them an email to correct them, but then I realized that the more sheep think that they're already illegal, the less likely they are to be banned.

Intro
The 1994 Crime Control Act, which is set to expire September 13, 2004, bans 19 specific weapons, large capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds and certain semiautomatic firearms defined by the law as "assault weapons."

Definition
An automatic weapon is one that has an auto-loading action that will fire continuously while the trigger is depressed. A semiautomatic weapon has an auto-loading action but only fires once per trigger pull.

Fully automatic weapons were banned before the 1994 law and would not be affected if the Crime Control Act were to expire.

The law defines a “semiautomatic assault weapon” as any of 19 particular guns or a semiautomatic rifle, pistol or shotgun that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least two of a list of other characteristics defined in the law. Click next for the list.

Rifles
A semiautomatic rifle with a detachable magazine is an "assault weapon" if it has at least two of the following characteristics:
• Folding or telescoping stock
• Protruding pistol grip
• Bayonet mount
• Flash suppressor or threaded barrel to attach one
• Grenade launcher

Pistols
A semiautomatic pistol with a detachable magazine is an "assault weapon" if it has at least two of the following characteristics:
• Magazine outside grip
• Threaded barrel
• Barrel shroud
• Unloaded weight of 50 ounces or more
• Semiautomatic version of automatic weapon

Shotgun
A semiautomatic shotgun is an "assault weapon" if it has two or more of the following:
• Folding or telescoping stock
• Protruding pistol grip
• Detachable magazine capability
• Fixed magazine capability more than five rounds

Banned weapons
The bill bans, by name, the manufacture of 19 different weapons:
• Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all models)
• Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil
• Beretta Ar70 (SC-70)
• Colt AR-15
• Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC
• SWD M-10; M-11; M-11/9, and M-12
• Steyr AUG
• INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9, AND TEC-22
• Revolving cylinder shotguns such as (or similar to) the Street Sweeper and Striker 12

Exceptions
Some weapons are excluded from the ban:
• Types of weapons listed in an appendix to the law, including certain rifles and shotguns and their replicas/duplicates, that were manufactured before October 1, 1993.
• Antique firearms
• Inoperable firearms
• Firearms that are operated manually by bolt, pump, lever or slide action
• Any semiautomatic rifle or shotgun that can't accept a detachable magazine that holds more than five rounds.

They still talk about Uzis and AKs which are banned from importation as well as TEC-9s... of which the company is out of business.

Yeah there are a few copy-cat companies (esp. for AKs) but none are actually labeled AK...

Kinda like saying my Bushie isn't REALLY an AR-15... its an XM-15.... biotch.

What types of weapons were used at McDonald's?

I thought it was 2 handguns, 1911A1 was one, that were used in the law office shooting. Perhaps a revolver was the second one. Neither of which were "banned"

On the new they just had the commentators reading e-mails, one guy wrote in banning guns based on cosmetic features is like banning cars, based on the type or style of hood ornament, and saying you did soemthing about drunk driving................

I could get more into McD's but I'm sorta short on facts, and I'm sure there would be a pissing match.
