if your looking for a good/light cam for adapting, try a canon powershot a40, a60, or a70, they all have the ability to take on scope adapters and are 2.0, 2.0 and 3.2megapixels. ranging from $200-$300. Might have better control over the edge of the photos, and they photos are GREAT quality!
I just picked up a canon powershot a70 last friday, and am thoroughly impressed! Its macro mode is awesome and the cameras are all manual to fully automatic...and mimic iso 50-400.
f2.8 15sec iso400 exposure at an overcast 3am. no flash, just ambient light from street lights. the grainyness is from the iso setting. image has been resized to 800x600 and is 62kb

camera is awesome!
the sony 717 is awesome too, but then again you still have the big barrel for the night capabilities...and it cost way more. the a70 is very light and small.
