I finally got the adaptor to hook-up my digital camera to my telescope! I decided that I needed to try it out and this is what I got. Not too bad for the moon in broad daylight! I cannot wait until it gets dark [:D]

Nice shot!

Got a 4" telescope for looking a the moon. Drag it out on the back porch all the time to look at the craters.

Its a 4" Bausch & Lomb/ Schmidt-Cassagrain reflector from the late 1980's (luckily, it has perfect optics). I got the adaptor from Scopetronix. Sony DSC F707 for a camera. The camera has a huge lens and I get a vignet (tunnel vision) when Its hooked-up. I MIGHT get a camera w/ a smaller lens so I dont have to screw-around with it too much. I would take a photo of the camera attached to the scope, but then I wouldnt have a camera to take the photo...LOL.

thats cool! more at night would be awesome.

if your looking for a good/light cam for adapting, try a canon powershot a40, a60, or a70, they all have the ability to take on scope adapters and are 2.0, 2.0 and 3.2megapixels. ranging from $200-$300. Might have better control over the edge of the photos, and they photos are GREAT quality!

I just picked up a canon powershot a70 last friday, and am thoroughly impressed! Its macro mode is awesome and the cameras are all manual to fully automatic...and mimic iso 50-400.

f2.8 15sec iso400 exposure at an overcast 3am. no flash, just ambient light from street lights. the grainyness is from the iso setting. image has been resized to 800x600 and is 62kb

f4 1/1000 iso50 overcast 4pm no flash. Image is 2048x1536 and 748kb.

camera is awesome!

the sony 717 is awesome too, but then again you still have the big barrel for the night capabilities...and it cost way more. the a70 is very light and small.

Ok, its dark now.

The chunk in the corner is a larger clip of the cratered area. The negative shows a bit more detail...LOL, and this is the BORING part of the moon [:D]

Thats some NICE photography! As Winston Wolf stated before, Im an optics nut. My next challenge is to get a semi-decent quality microscope that I can attach my camera to. Larger-than-life sized pics of common, everyday stuff might be kinda cool!

Its got tracking, but I havent a clue as to how it gets set-up. Tracking (I believe) is more for stars and objects that are REALLY far away so you can over-expose and get better photos.

Deadeye47 got his Canon A70 yesterday and we spent nearly the whole evening at work experimenting with it and we cam the the conclusion that it is the shiznik!!!

I recently found a Japanese Tea Garden here in Seattle ... went nuts and filled up two of my memory sticks on my newer digital camera. A few of them came out really really well - people get confused when they see these zen garden pictures on my desktop and I'm browsing ARFCOM. Love to keep them guessing.
