So what's the longest range shot you've taken? Have you shot at 300 yards? 500 yards? 1000 yards?

And: what gun and caliber did you use, and what were your results?

Precisely 87 yards.

Only about 250 yards. Not much in the choice of ranges here.

300 yards at a simulated 600-yard target with my Bushmaster M4gery. Was happy enough to hit the paper every time (though it was about 3'x3' .

400yds with my Sharps 45-90, 530gr cast bullet(I cast my own), pushed by 85gr of Goex black powder. With an iron tang site.

I'm working up loads in this rifle to shoot long range BPCR.

It's incredible how accurate these old BP firearms are, I never would have believed it until I shot it!

I shot an evil .50 - caliber rifle from the top of a mountain. It was so powerful that it went around the world and hit me in the back of the head. Fortunately it had lost most of it's velocity (understandably) and only bounced off.

600 yards at Quantico.

Colt 20" HBAR with compact ACOG. Hit about 1 in 10. My problem is I can barely make out the damn target at that range!

it only lost most of it's velocity because it shot down 12 airplanes as it was travelling around the earth.

1000 Yards at Tulsa Red Castle Gun Club, regularly!

600 yards with a Remington PSS in .308.

Pop-up silhouette targets at 600m with an MG-3 (in the army) and its crappy iron sights.

I remember it well, since I was ON FIRE that day, and hit everything I aimed at. With every 2-3 round burst, I'd knock the target down. It was part of a squad competition, and my squad totally smoked the rest, because I was hitting every target at 600m.

I've never shot that well since.

500 yards, M1A with open sights, using surplus Port ammo, prone sling unsupported. Man-size target. Hit every time.

400 yards, steel.

5 for 5.

It was my .22-250, not a real hard shot, but fun. Ain't got out to shoot farther than that.

335 Yards. AR15A2 HBAR1/7 62gr ammo vs. a water melon. It took a shot or two, but I got it. Never gave it a though that the damn melon would blend in with the green grass of the field I was shooting at...shoulda waited till fall when there would be pumpkins...

How far out did the helium tank at The Hun Farm used to be (before someone hit it a 50 BMG)?

Probably 250 yards??? Anyways, that's the farthest I've ever shot. I was using iron sights on my old DSA FAL shooting that helium tank and hitting with most of my shots.

Not too bad for using shitty remington ammo.

You must have been using a 9mm at point blank range. Everybody who's everybody knows that a 9mm will just bounce off someone's skull.

No wonder there were so many plane crashes on the news that night...and here I thought it was just coincidence.... Oh well.

1000 yds with match M1's , M14's and tried my match rifle AR at one long range match.

I used to have a Savage 110 FP .308 (before the 10fp days) we'd go down south of little rock to mining pits (try it now you go to jail) and shoot at a thousand yards. We were shooting at targets on full sheets of plywood. I could keep it on the plywood 9 times out of 10. That's been 7 years ago probably. I got rid of that rifle, biggest mistake I ever made gun wise. I'm in the market for another one, or an accurized turnkey M1A now.

Between five and six hundred meters, with an ACOG and tracers. Three rounds to get me on target. I had maybe four-five feet of wind drift.

500 meters with my 16" bull-barreled AR.

I was shooting off a bench with a bipod, sand bag under the rifle butt, and whacking a 12" gong pretty much at will. (75gr Hornady HPBT Match, 1:9 twist). LOTS of bullet drop at 500m, and I don't think I'd have done half as well if it hadn't been dead calm.

ETA: Yes, it's scoped. I don't have the eyes to see a 12" gong at 500m without assistance.
Link Posted: 2/2/2006 6:23:37 PM EDT
I have shot out to 2000.... but not really hitting anything.

Shot at 1000 in HIGH winds, and wasnt impressed.

Shot at 600 and did 195/4x on a 300yd target (would have been 200/and 12x or so on a 600yd target)

and this:

wow, i was always under the impression that 75gr ammo wouldn't stabilize well in a 1:9 barrel, especially out to those distances. i guess that not everything the "experts" tell you is true.
