If you were building a basement bar in your house, what long gun would you choose to hang over the bar?
It's gotta be functioning, and maybe a casual conversation piece. $2000 budget. No black rifles. I was thinking something along the lines of a semi custom .280 rem with remignton or winchester action, stainless and fluted Kreiger barrel, and presentation grade walnut stock with a nice zeiss scope OR Browning or Beretta Over/Under. What would you guys want above your home bar? |
I'd go with a side-by-side 12 gauge or a lever gun for a classic look.

Brown Bess with a 16" bayonet. Total length - about 6 1/2 feet.
Quoted: Yup. Get a Winchester 1866. I'd go with the one from Shaun of the dead. |
A Brown Bess,1858 Enfield, M1 Garand or something of similar size. CW swords are always a good choice. I have a 1858 Enfield and accouterments above my mantle with a M1860 sabre next to it.

What about a nice Springfield Trapdoor 45-70. Or a nice Kentucky Long Rifle.
Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action .30-.30
1865 Model Dreyse Needle Gun |
I'd think about a nice BP gun, maybe one of the revolver carbines, just because they're unusual.
Or the traditional shotgun... What is it that you find important? Antique looks, mag fed, can be stored loaded, uses modern ammo, somewhat suitable for defense, somewhat suitable for hunting, ??? From the example you give, I think the hunting angle is where you are coming from, so I'd look for an older deer rifle, maybe a lever action, with open sights (traditional looks, and requires actual operation to load a round). But that's a guess... |

Shiloh Sharps maybe? Uzi? Garand, WWII pieces are always nice. Maybe go with 2 Uzis in a crossed pattern? A Dragunov clone would be kind of neat. Could do 2 Colt revolvers in a crossed battern as well I guess.
So many options. |

Punt Gun? If it's the penis envy angle you are going after you can't go wrong with one of those.

for 2k I'd do...
1) Parker vh 2) 1895 Winchester 3) 1903a3 or 1917 Enfield 4) Nice custom Kentucky rifle 5) semi-auto sbr 1928 kahr/ auto ord Thompson Actually now that I think about it, I think the sbr 1928 tommy gun would be my choice. I went with a m-4 and a powder horn. Budget and all that. |

I would do a CZ-550 FS with the full-length Mannlicher stock in .308 or .30/06. It combines the classic look of a long walnut stock and blue steel with the functionality of a modern bolt action and detachable magazine. It also has open sights, but if you scoped it, it would probably make a bitchin' scout rifle at around 8.5 lbs.
What about the one from that western that had the guy from Three Men and a Baby in it?
What's his name again? |
Forgive me, but what is the name of that gorgeous hardware? |
Antique muzzleloader or a military rifle. Of my collection, I'd pick my 1903 Springfield.

M44 for $90.00 and pocket the rest of the money for later hookers and blow extravaganza at my bar.
